Had the gate open about a half hour ago and loaded some stuff in the back. Get to where I'm going and the gate refuses to open. The glass pops up and I was able to get my stuff out through there but the door wont budge.

Tried pushing from the outside and pushing from the inside while someone else tried the handle and the door wont open.

I do get a clicking noise from the glass latch when I pull the handle, but no noise where the tailgate latch is (not really sure if there ever was an unlatching noise... never paid much attention)

The tailgate is not frozen as I had it open about 20 minutes prior to its being a jerk and nothing looks like its trapped between the tailgate and the door frame.

Any ideas whats going on?

maybe something got caught in the door when you closed it. look around the lock area to see if something is in there.

I forget. But is there a keyhole on the handle itself? if so try using the key to unlock it. to bypass the solenoid.

Linkage probably came loose. Take that little cover off the access panel and see what you can see.

tried picking the door up by the tire and having someone pull handle and no luck. tried pushing from outside and inside of door with handle being pulled and no luck

that little access panel is useless. cant see anything. feeling around in there it seems like everything is working mechanically - no loose parts and nothing feels disconnected.

is there some other way to get the door open?

have someone give a sharp kick to the door while someone pulls on the handle.

don't really want to put a big footprint dent in the door but i'll give it a go out of frustration if the battery trick doesnt work

This happened to me once. My KJ was locked and after unlocking it and getting the kids in I went to the back to open the tail gate but it was stuck. The window poped but still the gate was stuck. I turned the KJ on and still nothing, so I turned it off and it opened. Hasn't happened since, I have no idea what you should do other than to try engine on/off combo's.

I'd not force it, as it sounds like the lock is still on. Forcing it may damage something, my 2 cents.

If your gonna try to pop it with the automatic key button. I would hold the latch open and then press the button. With the handle out the linkage is where its suppose to be. And hoping when you hit the button to unlock it, it will release. Good luck

Curious. When you press the button does it unlock all the doors? Was wondering if your battery was dying in your remote.
