At what point is it advantageous for me to swap out my factory 3.73 to 4.10’s. Or am I better leaving the 3.73’s? My plan is the Franken Lift II Premium or JBA’s lift with 32ish tires. THANKS

Hood, what was your total cost to swap them out? What were the noticeable changes?

after the tires!!! trust me even when i got 245/75/16s i now know i need to re gear. my tires are heavy but i think most are close. i plan to add a locker when i do my gear swap though since i will already have it all apart. i plan to get all the parts peice by peice when i can afford it. then when i have what i want do the swap. with 265s (32s) i know u will need them. the lift will not make u need a gear change.

I have yet to do it. It is in my immediate plans when money allows... 4.10's and ARB air locker front&rear.

Excellent, have you calculated a price estimation with a break down of 4:10 parts, lockers, and labor? I’m just trying to get a rough estimation of how much money I will need! Image

If you go to 31" tires the 4.10's will help a lot. If you go to 32" tires, you will really need them. The extra weight is still going to hurt. It is expensive though. Probably around $300 labor for each differential, plus all the parts. If you're going with lockers, have the gears done at the same time to save on labor. It would probably be best to get the big rubber under the Jeep, and then do the gears so you gain back some performance. Otherwise, you will gain a lot of power off the line, only to lose it, plus a lot more when you get the big tires.

Hey, thanks for the cost break down! That is not too bad of a price considering all that you get! Where does Jason Thompson live? I might have to make a road trip.

hanrahan, louisiana. probably a lil further than you would want to trek. Unless you want to make a trail ride down there.

Thanks for listing the cost breakdown. Now I know what I have to spend yet! That is exactly what I'm going to do. I ordered the lift and bumper. Waiting on them. I have the winch I won as a door prize. Will be getting rid of 17" rims for 16" ones then get some good rubber!

You might want to add a compressor to the list as well as a bearing set for the diff. If your going to spend that much money you really should get a bearing kit. I think they run you around $100.00(roughly). Also factor in the time to insatll the compressor and running the air lines!

I originally set out just to get it for the air horns.
I'm going to split the one air line coming out into 3 (1 to air horns, 1 front, 1 rear)

Where are you going to mount your compressor and air tank?

Will I need a bearing kit for both the front and rear? Are there any threads here that show mounting locations for the Compressor? I’ll have to get with some of the LOST ROCKIES guys to see where Ted and Troy installed their compressors.

1st: You can switch out the gears in the front? I kind of thought you'd have to replace the entire front diff.

2nd: Any advantage in changing to 4.10s for 245/70/16s? Or is it only worth it once you go with bigger tires?

it couldnt hurt but there is really more of a need with a bigger tire size. yes u can switch the gears out in the front but need to do the rear at the same time and u wont need a new front diff. also ARB sells a compresser for there air lockers might be a little more though but u could order it from where ever u get the lockers from.
