I just bought my tires... 235/75R16 Nokian Vatiiva A/T's. I'll post a pic below... the tread pattern seems pretty sweet! I was gonna go with 245/70R16s but I heard they may rub and as my Libby isn't a pre-lowered model and doesn't have a lift kit on 'er I thought this way I would give her a little more height too.

I'm also considering painting my stock Sport rims a gunmetal color... has anyone seen or heard of anyone painting the stock Libby wheels and if so, how do/did they look?

Thanks!

there are a few around who have painted their stock wheels and have turned out great, they will need to chime in to tell you what they used to do it. Goodluck with the tires, 245/70 would fit on yours with very little rubbing, not enough to even be concerned with.

That's sweet. I was just considering getting myself a set of Cooper Discoverer ATR 235/75 R16. I know the size is taller than 245/70 R16 so I was unsure if they would rub or not on my stock libby.

Reason being that a shop with a good price on the ATRs don't carry the 245/70 R16 type but instead the 235/75 R16.

How does the new tyres fit? Got any rubbing? Tried it at full flex? I need some info here :D

While the 245/70R16s would have fit on my Libby with little rubbing, the 235/75R16s are actually taller and I will get no rubbing with them. The 245/70R16s are 29.50" tall and 9.65" wide while the 235/75R16s are 29.88" tall and 9.25" wide, so I gain a little 'lift' with them (almost an inch over my stock 235/70R16s).

I haven't got the new tires on yet, but as soon as I do I'll report on them and post some pics as well! I figured since I'll have the tires off the wheels it will be a good time to paint them graphite and clear them as well. Tires were only $90.00/ea. so I thought that was a pretty good deal too...

Did you get those at a local dealer? Or mail order/ebay/etc?? That seems like a very good price.

I am a certified distributor for North Central Tire here in eastern Ohio... if you are interested, I can offer you the same tires (235/75R16s) for $93/each (only a $3 markup and much, much less than the retail price of $122.95). Let me know if you're interested.

I have had the 245/70/16 Nokian Vatiiva ATs on my unlifted rig since last september....two things. Killer tires...maybe the best AT all year round tire that can be had, and two ZERO rubbing without a lift. You just got yourself some truly impressive tires...btw, I got 5 for $515 OTD installed. I can honestly say these might put every AT tire out there to shame when it comes to winter driving. They eat ice, snow, rain for breakfast.

And btw, the above poster is right...you will have more of a chance with rubbing on 235/75s than you would with wider (but slightly shorter) 245/70s....just a heads up.

You can have your rims powercoated and clear coated by most local autobody shops (that have the equipment.) That would give your rims a pretty durrable finish and look really good.

Congratulations on the new tires. Did they show up yet?

Tires came in yesterday... I'm gonna hold off on putting them on til I have a little slow time in my shop to spray them though... I think I'm gonna go with a graphite color and clear them... I only wish I could see what it would look like before I do it... but I'm pretty confident!

Tires do look pretty sweet tho!

Welcome to the vatiiva club. :) I was pretty upset with their performance during first 1000 mile, but after that they were broken in they are now great.
And you got a great price on them. Enjoy (I know you will).

Last night, here in Upstate NY, we received about 3 inches of sleet and freezing rain which amounted to about a half-inch of ice on every exposed surface, including the Jeep! It took me almost 15 minutes of scraping to clear all my windows and windshield (you'd be AMAZED  at how many drivers in this area only scrape off a liiiitle teeny patch of windshield, then go cruising down the road in crappy weather!!!). The road surfaces were abominable as I was driving home from work at 3:00am (normally about 25 minutes, but it took me 40)! Covered in slush, sleet and a layer of ice underneath it all. My Vatiivas performed like champs! I didn't slip or slide at all, and at no time did I feel as though I was going to lose control. These have got to be the best tires for on-road use for a Jeep on the market today!
