Need opinions on Tires

Wasn't sure where exactly to post this.

My wife's 05 KJ limited has 235/65/17s and We like the vehicle, we just don't like the 'car' tire look. So we want to upgrade to a BFG AT or similar.

Problem being, our stock size isn't offered in any AT truck tire (That I can find).

So we have 2 options (post others if you think of them)

1--Do a small lift and get bigger tires
2--swap for stock 16s and get more aggressive tires

So, anyone have words of wisdom for me? Our 05 has TPM, so we have to work that into the setup. We haven't found a 16 that we REALLY like so far, but I know we haven't seen all our options yet.

do a 2.5" lift and keep your 17's.
you can fit 245/75's bfg's.

Because you haven't seen Moabs yet.

See them inperson, FALL IN LOVE.

I would swap to 16s, if you can sell these before they get more wear and tear. Otherwise, you might still be able to fit 245/65/17"s there. Or get thetires I have, (I have 17s) not the true A/T tires, but they will do just fine for daily driver / occasional rock climber. If wife is a daily driver, I wouldn't lift it. I am not sure how aggressive she drives, but any additional height is additional risk.

She is the boss! Women are crazy. My wife asked me to get low profile tires, and 20"s for my jeep.. Then one day, after seeing a few rings she said "can we lift ours and put wide tires, it looks great that way"... but when I bought a few parts for $100, she goes and complains to me, and brings up the "shoes and bags" converstaion.. ouch

I'm in the exact same boat. I have been thinking Crager Soft 8's in chrome. 16x7 with 245/70/r16's 29.5'' hopefully without lifting. Currently running Kumho Solus KR21 235/65/r17 29''. Thinking chrome because this is a daily driver and probably won't be seeing much off road, more snow or ice than anything else. I have also toyed with the idea of just keeping it the way it is and go with Firestone Destination LE's in the 235/65/r17 size (these are 29.5") just to have a bit beefier look and still keep the mileage in check.

soft8's won't work with TPMS, will have to get rid of them.. Which I would never do.

For what it's worth, I like the star-pattern factory Alloys on my CRD (may have been the standard issue on the gasser limited). It you're going to stay with stock diameter, there a lot of options in 245/70/R16. It also stays "factory" looking and you can use the tpms.

I was wondering about that! looks like I stay with the 17's and find a tire that fits for my needs. thanks for the info. Now I can spend the wheel money somewhere else! Magnaflow here I come!

Yep. Your rims are still in good shape. Or if you really want black mean wheels, get them painted profesionally.

You'd have to go with a 2.5" lift, but Dayton Tire now had a Timberline MT in 17". OK, that's very agressive, but they may have added some in their AT line too - I just never look at those. I forget what the spec is on them (the 17" MT's), but they were a finished 31.7". Just a thought...
