Spring run at DBNF?

maybe. if its not cold, i would like to camp. if it is cold though, i'll have to hotel it. i usually go to the sleep inn in london, but staying north of the trail would make more sense, and i think the econolodge would be cheaper.

Same rate, and the Days Inn has in room coffee maker, a 24 hr. Denny's and an Arby's on the same lot, not to mention it's a little closer to the exit.

I'm still not sure if I want to drive 6 hrs., plus expense for gas and lodging, only to maybe end up driving down a gravel road, or possibly end up on a closed road. Although I am getting cabin fever at this point.

X2 what is the chance that we wont get to wheel? 4 hr drive is alot of gas to waste. also what was the cost of the rooms? if we get there and we cant wheel is there anywhere else in the area to use as a back up plan. if we hit a dead end and everyone is cool w/ it we could do harlan. just a thought.

There are plenty of other places to go if the original route ends up being a bust. There will definitely be fun had!

Room for 2 adults with 2 dbl beds are $45.00 per night for us old farts over 50, and $50.00 per night for the younger crowd.
With 2 beds per room you could split the cost with someone to lessen the expense.

and im glad to hear there are other places we can run. i really need 2 new tires but ill try to get them before i head out. as far as campimg goes if its not to cold are there good places to camp? so for all the questions guys

haha, yeah. I had that light replaced the next day! i ended up driving around with the mud and the bent up nerf bars for a week before i took them off. so now my "sliders" are gone!

I do have newer and bigger tires...so i have more ground clearance....i got off lucky last time....could have been worse, right? i haven't ordered my diff collar yet either :wink:

ummmm.... I don't think you will find any legal wheeling at exit 49. The only thing you could do is go to the river run or down to Harlen.

From my zipcode(45140-Cincy area):

Exit 49/75=167 miles/2.5 hrs.

Harlan, Ky=250miles/4.5 hrs.

Wanted to give some of you a heads up so I ran on down this evening. Only a 30min trip for me and I was bored.

Gravel road is still the same and I didnt see any signs or gates saying the sheltowee trail was closed or was private land. I of course didnt run the entire course so someone may want to call the ranger station in London to make sure its open all the way out to somerset road.

I only went around 1/3 of the way in and I can tell you it seems like it has alot more erosion. Weve been getting alot of storms with heavy rain lately. Maybe its just where I was walking some of it and not in a Jeep but I wouldnt want to try it without sliders again.

I made it to where Science_guy locked his keys in his Jeep. Same place where you get really tipsy. That place also looks like its washed out more so be careful there.

Looks like theyve been putting new signs up.

Dont mind that side road I took. I was looking around.

thanks for doing some recon! by any chance did you follow the gravel road down the hill? last time, the gravel road went for a ways and then just ended down by the river. if theyve extended the building of that gravel road all the way down to somerset rd., then i would imagine that that route is what is on the MVUM and what is legal. that would make the route you were on that we usually take illegal now. either way, there is a route that goes from I-75 to somerset rd. on the MVUM, so if that gravel road just stops still, then our route is safe for now. does that make sense to everyone?

clear as MUD! No really I understand it. Hope that way is open anyways. Wonder how much rain they have had, rivers/ creeks up any Blake? Just thinking about the other road and how high the water maybe, hate to get my hood or fenderwells wet

i was just comparing some pics, and, yeah, looks like a lot more erosion. Compare this picture Blake just took:

with one from the same spot in July of last year:

looks like pretty much all of that dirt that mitch's front tire is sitting on has been washed away. note the location of the small double trunk tree to figure out exactly where this is. i think the "easy" routes might have to be used a little more!
