The euro KJs got 4.1s in them from the factory, until 2005 I think. Mine has the 4.1s at least. Can't say I'm taking advantage of them with my 235/75 R16s

Pretty sure Rustys isn't the correct front gears for the D30A.

Yup, got have the Dana/Spicer gears. They are the only one that make gears for the D30a.

I got mine from http://www.reiderracing.com/, but as long as they come from Dana/Spicer you can buy them from anyone who can get them.

The other option is the front diff from a 4 cylinder if you can actually find one. Wasn't too hard for me since I was the first to go that route, but people treat them like they're made of gold now.

Were there any stampings on the housing to identify 4:10 gears?

One of the diff cover bolts should have a metal tag with the gear ratio stamped on them.

Don't get any gears from Rusty's.Like Bugnout said, get the D30A gears from ReiferRacing, also can get the rears also, don't forget the master install kits.

Any gear sets from Precision gears,Motive gears,Dana/Spicer,Richmond,USA Alloy,or Strange gears is good----DON'T get Genuine gears, they whine really bad.

Gain lost lower rpm torgue/mpg's lost from going to 31" and 32" tires and/or added wieght from armor/bumbers.

Just like I need to go to 4.88's at least(I'm going to 5.13's though) to turn 35" tires on my KJ.

Yes it will but you can ,and I would, replace it with something better
the cost will only be parts as the gears will need to be set up any way
I recommend Detroit locker for the rear

As far as the 4.10 gears go, when DC was making the 2.4L 4 cyl in the Kj they were using 4.10 gears in them. So if you found one in a junk yard look at the axel tags. You might get lucky..........

They do not list the D30a that I could see. Do you have to call them?

On an aside, does anyone else really dislike websites that try to sell you something but won't give you a price?

Yes you need to call them.I have ordered from them(my HP44 gears/install kit),very good poeple, and got my stuff fast(2 days, free shipping also). The reason for no prices is they have very low prices and sometimes you are not supposed to sell other poeples stuff under a certian $$$ limit.

So the 4:10’s would be better for pulling, right? Especially after installing 31/32” tires, correct?

after installing 31/32s and changing to 4.10s it would put it back "closer" to say what it felt like with stock 235-70s

if your staying w/ a 31 then stay w/ your 3.73's the gas milage will change...also if your on street tires or at's...i have precsion(not sure if that's spelled correct) 4:10's gears w/ a tire size of 265/75/16 MT's...after i swaped out gears my gas is horrible...now to the good side...yes take off will be better and low end torke...4 low will be a little slower as well...and you can keep the same carrier...it would be a good time to install lockers so you are only taking apart the diffs once...if off roading w/ mt's then yes...street queen, no...it is not worth the gas milage money...
