You can always just roll a window down a bit before you get out. Free! (gotta make a note to myself to cut an extra non-transponder key too)

I locked my keys in the Wrangler last winter. Wait, before you say "Just unzip a window and crawl in", I had the hard top on. I had been wheeling that day at Paragon (was the official last run there) and the Jeep was covered in mud. Couldn't see out any of the windows really. So I ran into a local store to get some window cleaner and paper towels. Came out and turned the Jeep on to get the heater warmed up (the temperature was in the teens plus a wind chill). Started cleaning the windows then realized I had locked myself out. Luckily I had read a post on another board about a week earlier about someone locking themself out. So I opened the hood and found the fuel pump relay in the fuse box and pulled it. The Jeep died instantly. So I went back in the store and called road side assistance. They sent out a tow truck with a pop a lock kit. This guy must have spent a half an hour trying to get the door open but to no avail. I was standing out there with him the whole time. So I go back in the store and call roadside assistance again and tell them the first guy can't get in so they send another one out. When he finally gets there anther half hour later and I'm chilled to the bone. I'm back out there trying to help the guy in the freezing cold. He finally gets in after about twenty minutes. By now I am completely resolved to NEVER let this happen again since I can barely feel my fingers. I have the Sentry key system so I went to the hardware store when I got home and had them cut a non transponder key for me. Without divulging the location, I can say that now there is always a key on the Jeep in an easily accessible yet inconspicuous place. Of course in the summer if I lock my keys in, I will just unzip a window and crawl in.

Dang I locked my keys in my wrangler at a hotel. I went inside got a hanger and was in my jeep in seconds. They are extermely easy to pop. Yes I had the hard top on the time as well and mine is an 06. They aren't very secure with the hard tops on, just most people don't know how easy they are to get into.................

I got an email some time back claiming that that you could unlock your car via your cell phone. But it isn't true see this link

A friend of mine gave me a tip for a spare key mount that I've used before, and after reading this discussion, I'll do again.

Wrap your spare key in duct tape - sticky side out. Just a couple wraps and fold the ends over so you have a sealed package. Then use silicone adhesive to coat one side of the package and let it dry. Then find about any spot you want on your vehicle, clean it, and coat the other side of the package with silicone and stick it to the area you cleaned.

I had one mounted on the fenderwell of my car and had to use it after years of being stuck there. I just peeled it off (with some effort), opened it up, and voila - a brand new key ready for use.
Those magnetic jobs work, but unless they've changed anything, dirt easily gets in there enough where you have a very dirty key. The magnet could fall off too.

You can mount that package anywhere you want, and anyone seeing it would never suspect what it is.

I could see that going real well for me when I get pulled over on base for a random vehicle search!

"Uh sir what is this rubber package adhered to your frame rail!?"

Well I have been locked out of my 2006 Liberty twice this past year, once my girlfriend was digging stuff out of the back seat (driving) and I got out in the passenger side and locked the doors using the switch before closing the door. She promptly closed her door as well but left the key on the back seat. :? We called a tow truck and they came by with a slim jim and unlocked it promptly. I watched him do it for future reference.

The second time, it was all my fault, I started my Jeep, grabbed the snow scrapper out of the back seat and must have rubbed against the locking switch on the way out... Locked out again with the engine running. Let's just say I was none too happy, was a long day, snowing, cold and the vehicle was blocking access to the only other vehicle in the driveway so we couldn't even drive home to pick up the extra key.

However, this time, I knew how to pick the lock, but no slim jim. The only tools I had were the window scrapper and a wire clothes hanger. Basically, getting into a Jeep is very easy and you don't need to smash any windows to do it nor try to pry open the door from the top... Go in the passenger side door where the rubber meets the window at the bottom of the window. You'll need something to pry the hard - not very flexible - rubber away from the window sill and then insert the clothes hanger wire (bend it like an L shape) down near the door lock and keep fudging around in there in an Up and Down twisting motion until you hook on to the lock mechanism. It took me about 5-10 minutes of doing this with these tools and no prior hands on experience. No damage to the window or door either.

Cheers.

easy to say when u have the tools and are not in the middle of no where with a ton of snow comming down fast. also we just had to winch a rubi with 35" MTRs and a good lift because he slid off the trail where i got locked out. this was the only way really or i woundnt have done it. to bad i didnt have a coat hanger but i didnt. i cant believe this post just keeps comming back up

Hey guys n gals :D

I'm lucky enough never to have locked myself out my KJ.

Also down here in South Africa it gets so darn hot out on trails that even if you did lock the key in the car, you'd have a window open anyways.....

I'm paranoid about locking myself out of my vehicles. I've done it a couple of times in the mini-van  Once I had a new key cut from the dealership and the other time I had a tow truck legally "break into" my vehicle.

What's really embarrassing is when the dog locks you out

What I don't like about my Libby is that whenever I turn it off and get out the doors don't automatically unlock. What I need to do is read the manual to learn how to program the locks.

Hey MMNK

I'm in Johannesburg. Nice place but too much traffic and also round here leaving the keys in your car can be the least of your worries. Down here if you lock your keys in your car you can just wait a few minutes a and totsi (criminal) will appear and do the work for you. Then again he might shoot you and take your car...

Seriously, it ain't that bad here. We do have more crime than most countries though so it pays to keep vigilant (which I wish I was being when I whacked a tree and tore my front right fender off :x ) But boy is this place a beautiful country with lots to offer. One thing that is lacking a decent place to get KJ Accessories....
