I am shopping for a cargo trailer for my motorcycle. Looking at 5X8 or 6X10 single axle. Does anybody use these? I have the 5 speed, so tow rating is less than with the auto. I don't want to use mirror extenders so I would think 6' wide is the widest to get.

I had a 6x10 enclosed trailer for awhile, single axle, pulled real nice behind my KJ,no problems with visibility either.Pulled it from WA to CO with over 4000lbs of my junk in it.I also have pulled a 6x12 enclosed trailer. If you get a enclosed trailer your looking at about a 1000lbs for a 6x10 single axle, probally about 800lbs for the 5x8.

Pic of my old trailer behind my KJ........

OK now Marty thats a cool trailer for sure

I have a 6X10 cargo and a 5X8 open with 2 1/2 foot sides, both pull really good, not the best gas mileage towing them but what the heck. I have had the open one stacked with wood over the side rails and towed over 250 miles and the cargo have towed it to Boston and back a couple of times fully loaded, plus all over nearby states. I have hauled my Harleys on both of them. If you are going to buy one get a V nose thats what I wish I would of done. 5 foot is big enough for one bike.

i have a 5W x 10L x 5H (interior height) that I bought to move from florida to NC with and it pulled and stopped it fine with 4200lbs in the trailer. I'll get you some pics of it in a day or too. If your going to use it for your motorcycle's (So do I)....then dont get a trailer that is to tall for your needs. when I was looking for a trailer to buy....I knew I would be pulling a lot of weight at highway speed so I though if I could eliminate wind resistance some then I could carry more weight....so look for a trailer that isnt too tall for your needs but is tall enough to get the bikes in.....unless you wont ever have to drive at highway speeds with it then it wont matter how tall or big you go the libby can do it

good point! I would like it big enough to store the bike related things in, helmets, windshield, seatback, cover etc.. maybe put in a shelf or two. I have no garage for my harley, so instead of buying or building a shed, I thought one on wheels would be much more practical.

I rented a 6' x 12' dual axle trailer from UHaul. It weighed 2600 lbs and I loaded it with 3000 'bs of my stuff and drove to Ft Lauderdale from Salt Lake City. I got 16 mpg on the trip.

If your intention is for just hauling the bike and few more things, look at the 5 foot wide 8 or 10 foot long , also one that is about the same heighth as your KJ, also like I said before v nose makes a huge difference going down the road. 5 foot wide you can see back around easy also, ramp door that way you dont have to carry along an extra ramp and a side door is always great as well

definitely want a ramp and v nose, more space and less wind resistance. Heck, could live in it if times got really tough!!!

I have a 4x8' from snowbear similar to this but an older model http://www.strongboxtrailers.com/page/Model_8000HD_Utility_Trailer

But it becomes 4x12' when you turn the front and reas around to be flat... 8)

I tow a 8'x14' tandem axle flatbed trailer with 3' high sides. You can definitely feel this behind the KJ. Although the sticks are rated at 3,500# & the auto's at 5K, I know I have exceeded that. That much weight w/o trailer brakes seems to push the KJ pretty good in some stopping situations.

For the cheapest alternative, maybe you could just ride the bike?

Nah, I ride about 15,000 miles/year. I stop when they put salt on the roads, start back when the salt gets washed off. Never been on a trailer.

There are a lot of nice things about the Aero. As big as it may look (basically an aerodynamic 5x8 trailer with cover), it only weighs 450lbs. Many different add ons, has the 5x4.5" bolt pattern, so a simple lift and you can make it more offroad capable and use stock jeep rims, it has a platform for using a queen size air bed and still have storage room under the platform, and when compared to other sport utility trailers, this one comes fully decked out with tent and everything for about $3500.

I've got a 6'x10' rated at 3500 lbs. My son built it in shop class in 2005. Trailer brakes a must. pulls with no problem, stops great.

I recall a while back seeing a post about some Trailer Kits that were tear Drop designed you could do them in wood or aluminum. Later I saw one on My Classic Car, outfited with a double bed and mini kitchen it was pretty slick.

Yes it is and I thinks it has a classic look not to mention the self saticfaction of building it yourself   Either polished Aluminum or wood finish , but with the wood finish I'ld get one of those Woody Kits for my KJ
