I noticed recently....when listening to a couple MUFFLER clips on youtube from some guys here on L.O.S.T., that when they rev their engines the rpms drop as soon as they let off the gas.

HOWEVER, on my KJ, I noticed that when I rev the engine....the RPMs stay up for a second or so after letting off the gas....its like I press the gas pedal...the RPMs start going up....I let off the gas and they continue going up for a second...then they start to drop... It doesn't happen as fast as the guys posting the vids.

Is this a problem...or all all KJ's like that until you install a new muffler or whatever?

It's like theirs are like VAROOOM, VAROOOM, and mine is like VARRROOOOOOOM, VARRROOOOOOOM.....even though my foot is doing VAROOOM, VAROOOM.

Am I explaining this well?

Does anyone else notice this problem with theirs?

What year KJ do you have? If it is a '07 they have that electronic throttle that is a little slow compared to the '02-'06's that still have the throttle cable.

Yes, I have this same issue on my '07.

Yup, our 06 WK is the same and it has that fly-by-wire throttle crap.

Yeah, I do have a 2007. So I guess I'm in the same boat. Well at least its not a problem with something...other than its probably more expensive to fix if something goes wrong...now that its FLY BY WIRE.

Pretty soon I won't be able to work on anything myself. I'll have to take it to the dealership to get it worked on. Too bad we can't go back to the old school engines that you could work on in your driveway without having to have a degree of some sort to fix an engine.

Oh well...at least there is nothing wrong at this point.

Thanks for the info.

You can still do that with a liberty, thats one of the things I really like about it.

Unless its something major, I can break down somewhere, have it tell me whats wrong with it, look up the codes that I keep with me, fix it, and be on my way. :)

Does that mean when you are on the highway and accelerating, and suddenly need to slow, the throttle is slow to respond, since it doesn't lower RPM as fast, putting strain on brakes? Or helps with engine braking?

i also have a 07 and no when u let off and hit breaks it stops but it is so annoying its hard to hold revs like when warming up in the cold and if u tap the gas alittle while in park its like vrrrooooom!!! the throttle control sucks.

I believe drive-by-wire is why I hated the manual transmission on the '07 that I traded in. I could not get any timing down because sometimes there would be a delay when you hit the acclerator, sometimes not.

Whenever I turned a corner and got back on the gas there would usually be nothing for a couple seconds, then the power would kick in. Not much fun driving a manual transmission when you never know what's going to happen when you hit the pedal.

The jeep was always lurching and jerking all over the place. Surprised the engine didn't fall out in the couple months I had it.

I don't notice it so much on the automatic. It's still there, but mild.
