I have to be on my cell phone a lot and I don't like driving with the phone to my ear (for various reasons). So, the bluetooth hands-free system offered by DaimlerChrysler sounded pretty good. A friend told me to wait and not get that installed as there were better systems out there.
I found a system made by a company called Parrot. It has a display that shows caller ID, you can do voice dialing with it, and various other things. And the sound quality is amazing. It is designed to plug into the stereo system so that it mutes the stereo when a call comes in, or when you place a call. The caller's voice comes through the stereo speakers. Once the call is done, the stereo volume goes by up to where it was. I found a new one on Ebay for $160. It retails for $299.
When we first went to install it, we realized that some kind of cable / harness adapter was required to make this work with the Jeep's RB1 system (and any of the other Jeep sound systems). After hours of searching on the net, I found that one company, Nexxia, in Britain, sells the adapter required for a seamless installation. Apparently, these Parrot things are very popular in Europe and the Jeep adapter is a big seller. Total cost of the adapter was about $45 including shipping.
We finally got around to installing it. It works flawlessly.
Just thought I'd let you know in case anyone is interested. The converter cable to install one of these in the Liberty (Cherokee in Europe) is on this site:
http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Telemuting_kits/chrysler.htm What you need is called an ISO lead for Parrot / Chrysler RB1.
So far, I'd take this system hands-down over the one Chrysler sells.
