does $235 sound about right for a surco roof rack?

Jeepin' by Al has it for $207.04, but you still need the mounting clamps and those go for $112. The Surco will not mount to factory rails without the clamps.

I THINK the short answer is "No". The cross bars on the Surco rack are a structural part of the whole basket. The floor plates bolt onto the cross bars. The clamps in your pic fit around the cross bars. The Surco clamps have a metal guide plate that fits inside the cross bars and then clamp to the stock rails in a similar fashion as the ones in the picture. I will post some close-up photos tomorrow if I didn't explain it well enough.

My rack was only $150 through Summit. The mounting hardware only cost me about $16 at ACE but, it's not very pretty.

Surcos rock and give great support for their product but with any roof rack be careful with the height when going into garages. Surcos are taller than most.
