Is it possible to "permanently" turn off the auto-dimming rear view mirror? It's not a bad feature for some but I have never liked it. For me at least it seems to make things harder, not easier, to see.

I know I can turn it off each time I start up the car but it's a bit of a pain. It'd be great if there was some factory setting or something that could be flashed so I had to default it to OFF, so I had to manually turn it on if I wanted it on, rather than the current default to ON.

Anyone know if that's possible?

According to the manual:
Automatic Dimming Mirror — If Equipped
This mirror automatically adjusts for annoying headlight
glare from vehicles behind you. You can turn the feature
on or off by pressing the button at the base of the mirror.
A light in the button will indicate when the dimming
feature is activated. I think in the limited there is a way to disable it in the EVIC.

Thanks Limitedguy but I did read the manual. I know it's not in the usual male DNA to read manuals, but I had been cover to cover through the thing twice before I even picked up the keys for my KK.

Of course there is always the odd chance I could have missed something, but I don't remember seeing anything about a setting for the mirror in the EVIC, and scrolling through the options I didn't see anything. The search continues...

The autodimming feature is activated once the little "eye" sensor senses brighter light, that sensor is right beneath the mirror.. unless they made some weird changes on KK.
I think covering that up with some black tape, or some plastic cover, cut to shape, will permenantly disable the feature.. making the jeep and mirror think it is always dark out, therefore keeping it not dimmed.. have you tried it?

point a flashlight to your mirror, see if dims.
