Why are the hitch mounts limited on angle pulls?

Simple really, it is a question of the anchor point for the winch being only one Little 2 inch square piece of tubing, the receiver hitch. A bumper mount distributes the load accross the front of the KJ and the winch has a more secure footing. The receiver hitch is strong, don't get me wrong. Just don't be surprised if it gets a little tweeked if you find your only anchor point for your winch cable is off at an angle from the face of the winch. will put a bunch of stress on that receiver and the 2" sqaure post all that weight is pulling on.

another reason I didnt want a hitch mount is that you don't always know when you'll be needing the winch and trying to mount it if you are stuck in snow mud and the hole is underneath the snow/mud would be difficult at best.

Good point, a point worth noting and something that I have not considered before as being an issue.

Warn M8000 is a good winch. i got pulled out by one last fri and it worked great. i was really glad that the guy i was with had it. we did use a snatch block but it didnt seem to have a problem at all pulling the KJ. he has his mounted on an ARB bumper on a Land Rover. it also has a sythentic line. this is the way i plan to go as soon as i can get the money for a bumper (or make one ).

I'll probably end up going with a hitch mount bumper. I have too many vehicles to buy a winch for each one. It would be to my advantage to move the portable winch mount from my tractor, to KJ, to Dodge, to another Jeep, etc. If I were to buy one today, I would go with the Sundance Customs Rockstar Bumper.

Read some reviews on the warn M8000. As you will hear it is a very reliable and durable winch and you can find them all over the net for the low to mid $500.00 price range. Also you get a decent warranty!! If your going to spend that amount of $$$ make sure it is one that is going to work when you need it!

X2, Dito and all that stuff.....

More important than saving a couple of bucks.
X3 here. I have heard the M8000 is great and it is more than enough for any Jeep.
