You can get plenty of flex from a KJ,maybe not as much in a similar built SFA rig but not bad for a IFS with the front bar still connected.I'm running the Skyjacker lift with Rancho front struts and Rancho 17004's in the rear,265/75's are the tire size.

So how much extra flex you get in the rear depends on your shocks not the rear sway bar :?: Please correct me but if my rear tyre is off the ground (at full drop), then it's the shocks that are stopping it from further travel. If not, how much more flex is remeoving the rear sway bar going to give me :?:

Both wheels moving the same direction would be suspension travel. Wheels moving opposing directions would be suspension flex. The swaybar does not inhibit travel but does provide tension that reduces flex.

I think it's safe to say that it all works together as one big flexy family.

The setup on the rear of our vehicles have a multitude of things that restrict wheel travel. For a stock KJ it seems to be almost exclusively the shock extension (as even a stocker has no problem stuffing the wheel wells). Once the shocks and springs are replaced it becomes more complicated it seems. You have a "boomerang" that wants to restrict vertical axle sag, short suspension arms that are trying to convert vertical travel into horizontal movement at the lower end of their arc, and a swaybar that is trying to keep a similar angle between these arms the whole time.

As I'm sure JeepinAl found out.... that's when things get complicated

i agree the KJ isnt that bad for an IFS. i thought it would be alot worse when i first got it anyways.

Nice looking rig Dloc :D
I see you have a hi-lift on the basket, I'm thinking you only use it on your rock rails. If so, how do the rails handle it, any issues.

just fine. i can jack the entire Jeep up, all 4 wheels off the ground, and put it on 4 jack stands on the rails and it holds the weight with no problems. i made my own rails but i would say this goes for the ones you can buy as well. you should at least be able to use the hi lift on them. with out some sort of a tool thats the only place you can really use a hi lift on the KJ.

That's great Dloc, I'm thinking of getting some rails. A local guy is selling Super Nerf rock rail by JKS for $595 AUS Dollars, at Christmas time they were $750 +gst. However, making your own sounds a lot better. I will just have to wait and see what I can do.
This is a pic of the rails he has on his web site:
