I cannot seem to find a Powertrax for an open rear end searching. Anyone have a name of a good retailer that would have it? I only have found one for a Trac-Lok rear. Are they the same model for both?? It is for my 2004 KJ without the Trac-lok.

I'd wait a few months, as the "Aussie locker" will be available for the Chyr. 8:25 at a lower price than the Powertrax No-Slip.

On my Receipt from Summit Racing the part # is PWT-92-0382-2905 for the Powertrax No-Slip.

You can also contact sales@richmondgear.com or call 864-843-9231 M-F 8am-5pm.

I can't speak from experience, but many people on hear hate the Power-Trax. When I decide to get either a locker or lsd. I'll be getting a Detroit True-Trac, I believe they have them for both the rear and the front for the KJ.

I personally wheel with a person who has the Powertrax in their KJ. He loves it and it works flawlessly. I know there is good and bad feedback on these units. Willing to give it a try since you do not have to have the backlash re-set and can be installed at home. I just found it at RRO but not sure on the customer service. It is $410 at RRO and $460 at Summit. Thanks for the part number!

Mines also been flawless for 3 + yrs.....But, I'd still hold out for the Aussie which is similar to the Powertrax and has great reviews in other applications. It's supposed to be out in May, and in the $200 - $300 price range.

Will the Aussie be just as easy to put in, i.e. no backlash re-set?

The powertrax is 'ok' for what it is. I do not let anyone at all drive my jeep since you must understand how to drive the Jeep with the powertrax, more so in the rain.

I will not be buying a lunch-box locker again unless its for a beater. :?

Did you repalce the springs yet for your Powertrax to see if that corrects your problem?

I had 2 and broke them both on easy trails ,power trax that is
now I know some have them and they work great and that is fine but for me 2 out of 2 is really bad
I now have a Detroit locker ,yes after the $125 or so price difference and the $250 install it cost a good bit more
but ,there is always a huge butt, it behaves better on road then the power trax ever did working or not
and when they break ,and they will, hold on as you will only get 1 wheel drive and no ,NO, power will go to the other wheel
100X worse than an open diff. off road and will push you to one side on road

I would highly recommend holding out for a Detroit if you are willing to live with a full time locker
simply put the Detroit is the bench mark by which all other are trying to meet
or
You get what you pay for

Springs were replaced when it was put in.

Dont really have a problem other than the normal 'locker' bangs.

Sometimes it doesnt like to lock though. Kinda sucks when it does that since it leaves all the power to one wheel. :?

Moose, it is kinda like my Harley: The da*n thing just won't leak oil or burn it either. Everyone just knows that all Harleys do that ( :? ) so mine must be weird. I ride about 15,000 miles a year ( and you know our weather limits the season some) but I must not be riding it right??

Everyone just knows that lunch box lockers are junk, too.

the springs do break so I would go with them
on 1 I broke the synchro ring thingy in 4 or 5 pcs.
on the other I broke some other part not sure what as I did not get to see it
guys just said that it was "Effed up REALLY bad"

how ever mine would act like that fresh off the shelf
all kinds of popping and bagging ,some time locking and some times smoking 1 wheel
BOTH did it so I just thought it was normal ,must not have been

Now that I have the Detroit it is a new world
NO pops or bangs
VERY VERY predictable and I have wheeled the CR@P out of it ,rev-limiter bouncing up a hill and it did not break
yet the power trax broke under what I would consider not much more than a dirt road

Jeepster maybe you dont wheel hard enough trails to break it but you have a bad one as well?

Eddo pointed out to me that there's a tiny lip on the spacer (that fits between the driver and coupler) in some of the older Powertrax that affected how the Syncros lined up. Since the lip interfered, it kept the teeth from fulling engaging 100% of the time. When we inspected mine, we saw that the parts had no lip.

I bet he'd be able to explain it better if you PM him.

read my post above
or any post about the power trax
then get on places like JU or dare I say Pirate and ask them what they think about "lunch box lockers"
I know that ~$800 is a hard pill to take but trust me ,please, it will be so worth it in the end
even if for the piece of mind that you have one of the best if not the best locker you can buy and that chances are
WAY better that it will not let you down when you really need it

I had 2 power trax fail out on the trail so I will not speak highly of them but like I said ask around
and make sure to ask about quality of the power trax VS the quality of a Detroit
