Well I did a complete 60k tune-up on my KJ(fuel filter, tranny filter/fluid,engine oil,t-case,PS fluid, plugs, and all that good stuff) and from my trip from Colorado Springs to MOAB this morning my fat hog got 17.4mpg on the 1st tank,18.4mpg's on the 2nd,and a whopping 19.7mpg's on the 3rd.Not to shappy for a overweight beast loaded down with a suit case of clothes,a complete Frankinlift, cooler full of beer, and extra parts/fluids.Not to mention it already was at 5500lbs before all that extra wieght.

Good maintance seemed to be in my favor 8) .

 That's amazing for that HOG, but hey, I think your homemade “cold” air intake inlet hose really helps, especially now that your motor is dialed in. The reason why I say that is because I'm getting 23-24 mpg on my factory 07, KJ running 0W30 motor oil in addition to my air inlet.

Wow...big improvement over your usual 6-7 mpg's!! Hell, mine doesn't even get 19 mpg's, usually around 16/18 in the warmer months.

I think t-case makes the biggest difference. I just got that done last month, my mpg went up from 14.5 to 16.2 on a good day.

i am at 50K+ and i was going to do my front and rear diffs, but i have so much h/w... yeah college sucks!! but i am glad i am here,
so my question is, i don't think i have done a t-case flush ever?

should i wait for 60K, an do the t-case and diff's then?

or

do the diffs now and wait till 60K to do the t-case?

I do my t-case every 2nd oil change, that's every 6000miles,the fluid is always pretty dark in my t-case by then from the added weight.ATF+4 is easy to find and not to much $$$ for just 2qts,takes like 10 mins to change.

how do you do it? b/c there is no reason for me to have to take it in, and pay 100+ to have it done.
i think the reason people do not keep to the maintenance schedules is b/c every place is too da*n expensive!

That is why I do all my own work except for the tranny flush,I don't have a extra $7500 for the good flush machines like a dealership has.

so how do i do my t-case? if i think it's plausible, i'll try it. i am really still a newbie when it comes to doing this stuff.

I tried to change my spark plugs, and i didn't feel comfortable moving the coolant bottle (i think that's what it was) and so i chickened out and had Precision Tune Autocare do it and they only charged me $50, when the board said $105, and it only took like 10 minutes.

1. Remove the t-case skid if you have it. 4 bolts - do the crossmember bolts first then the side bolts
2. open the fill plug on the back side of the t-case
3. remove the drain plug on the back side of the t-case and drain the ATF+4 fluid
4. replace the drain plug
5. fill with ATF+4 until it starts overflowing from the fill hole. (probably need < 2 quarts)
6. replace fill plug
7. Replace skid plate

I thought there was a thread in the tech section but couldn't find it.

I couldn't find it either, but those 7 steps are really all there is to it. The skid plate is the only grunty part of the job, but it's not bad.

You can use a clean grease gun or Flo-tool to fill it because the fill hole is kinda high up in there. Just make sure the dripping is all done before you put the drain plug back in, and give the hole a wipe to dry it off first. I don't use sealant and no problems.

Thats amazing tjkj. I figured mine up on the last tank of gas and only got 18mpg. That was taking it pretty easy too. I would say my average speed was 65mph. High being 75mph and low being 55mph.

Is there a way to fill the TCase without using a hand pump? I hate monkeying around with those things...

I use a Flo-tool. It just screws onto the ATF bottle. Turn the valve, squeeze the bottle and done.

That sounds like it will work... How do you clean it to avoid contamination if you use it with another type of fluid?

And where do you get it?
