Great job! Next time you'll be down to 4 hours no problem. I lifted myself up like you did last time I changed the oil. Right after the "what the ...?" is when it broke loose. Luckily, being a girl and having smaller hands and wrists, it's a lot easier to get to the filter. A drink after totally helps too!

The filter came off pretty easy. I could actually get 2 hands on it from the top. The plug is what was stuck.

Next on the list is the sparkplugs.
The new wrench I bought should come in handy for those.

I did it !!!!

I was also wondering why Jiffy Lube always revs my engine. Was I supposed to do that for some reason?

By the way............it only took 6 hours:)

I remember my first oil change, I think it took me about that long, don't feel embarrassed.

I think Jiffy does that to keep the oil pressure up, but I don't think its a good idea to rev and engine without having oil running through your whole system. It's a better idea if you pour like a 1 quart of oil into your filter before you install it. Great Job!! What kind of oil did you use?

I used Castrol Full Synthetic 5W-20.

I was going to use regular oil, but had trouble with the 5W-20 vs 5W-30 debate, but then I read somewhere that if you want to stick with the manuf. recommendation and use 5W-20 then use synthetic.

The reason it gave was that synthetic 5W-20 will have more strength and hold up better than a dino 5W-30.

And the 0W30 will hold up better than the 5W20

Question:

When I checked my oil this morning after letting the jeep sit all night, the reading on the dipstick indicates it is overfilled.

Was I not supposed to pour all 5 quarts in?

(I just realized I'm parked on a pretty good incline facing uphill. Maybe that's why the dipstick is showing overfilled)

Check it on level ground!

If you use the Ford PH1 filters you can put 5.5qts in,the correct filter for the 3.7 holds 0.5qts,the PH1 Ford filter holds 1qt of oil.

The 3.7 takes 5qts,mine also shows slightly overfilled when I check it,but it is stated in the owners manual that it takes 5qts so there is no problems with using 5qts.

I don't even check the fluid level after I change the oil, heck I put 5qts in,it ain't leaking so why check it,I do check the level once a week though.

I believe all of the 5w-20 oils are at least a syn blend if not full syn due to being 5w-20.

Probably, mine always read a tick over full if I put right at 5quarts in.

Congratulations!

1) REV'ing the engine with fresh oil is a huge no-no. Jiffy Lube does it to make sure your car doesn't blow up when you leave the shop. It's their liability check and they are not doing it for your behalf (for the most part).

2) When you first start the car after an oil change - that is the critical step. If you hadn't tightend the oil filter enough you would have known from the mess of oil spraying eveywhere.

3) On the oil stick: Is it perhaps that the oil stick itself is just really accurate. Between build tolerances, manufacturing variances and what have you, would it not be possible for 5 quarts to really be full, but your stick is inaccurate? Thus the need for the extra oil just to hit the level? This same question applies to those that only need 4.5 quarts to fill the oil pan
