I am looking for some real info on the Super Swamper Trxus and SSR tires. I have drooled over the SSRs ever since they came out, but I never got any because they seem like more of a mud tire and I live in Nevada where mud is almost nonexistent. I have had Goodyear M/TRs, BFG MTs, and BFG ATs and all but the BFG MTs were great. I hated the MTs. Just my personal pref. So I am looking to replace my stock setup with a Frankenlift and some larger tires as soon as the stock ones wear out. I am down to the SSRs and the Trxus. The Trxus are cheaper by like $100 for a set of 5. I have never heard a bad thing about the SSRs but I have heard quite a few negative reviews about the Trxus. At the same time I have heard great things about the Trxus too. I know a few around here run the Trxus and so I need you input. I don't mind the extra $100 for the SSRs because I have wanted the SSRs since I was a teenager, but if the Trxus are a good set of rubbers, why not compromise a little and go with a slightly less aggressive super swamper. I have decided I can't go without super swampers anymore regardless of the lack of mud here in NV. I have wanted a set for years upon years now and I don't wanna wait no more.

I am running the Trxus MT's right now, they are a really good tire, have lived up to there name.Great value for the money.Very good wet traction and very better then average on snow and ice compared to other MT tires.

The only thing that I have to say about them that is bad is they only have a 2-ply sidewall, plenty strong as I have tested them on some very sharp rocks in CO but I preferr the 3-ply side walls.

As long as you don't get the SX Swampers you can't go wrong with the TSL's either.

I thought you ran the Trxus. They look sweet and they seem like they would wear better than the SSRs because the lugs aren't as massive on the Trxus. They seem like they would be a nice median between a mud and a rock tire. How many miles have you gotten out of them and how are they wearing?

I've got about 20,000 miles on them with about 45% tread left. You will need a perfect alignment or they will wear funny even with 3000mile rotation.Towing that trailer for 1000miles killed my front tires from the rear being squated down and raising the front end up.But I'm sure the SSR's are the same way.

Yeah, I know the SSRs wear pretty good but you must rotate every 3000 or 4000 or else it all goes to hell. I only drive about 1100 miles a year so they will last me years to say the least, even if i only get 30000 out of them. I am leaning toward the Trxus because I can save that extra 100 bucks towards more mods. But I am just checking around to see if anyone has had any bad experiences with the Trxus.

What are the bad things about the Trxus that you have heard? Anyone that I have talked to that run them/or have run them loved them.

I heard they wear faster than the SSRs, they are impossible to balance, they grow louder and louder with wear, and they are easy to tear up/rip chunks out of.

Another option, among many, is going back to a BFG AT. They are amazing tires, and they can get like 60,000 miles out of them. My dad claims he got 75,000 out of his 35" BFG ATs on his F-350. I am not sure if I can believe that though. They cost about $20 more for a set of 5 than the Trxus, which is squat for twice the mileage. So???

I can see about the balancing,2 of mine took hardly no lead, but the other 2 have over 16oz to get them "close",but that seems to be a Interco tire thing.Mine have been less noisy then the MT/R's they replaced from day one and I think they are getting less noisy with wear.I believe the part about tearing up the tires, ripped a nice chunk out of my sidewall, still holding air for the past 12,000miles though, they are only 2-ply side wall, but the SSR's are only a 2-ply side also but have a little more sidewall protection then the Trxus MT's.The Trxus MT's are alot softer then the MT/R's,not sure how they compare to the SSR's.

I have Trxus M/T's on my '79 Chero. In what sounds like a rewind, two balanced with almost no weights & two were a bear, even swapping them on other rims.

I have very few street miles on the '79, but they seem to be a very good tire. If you have a lot of rain or snow/ice, the siping on the Trxus probably makes it the better choice.

I tore my MT/Rs to shreds out here in NV. They are a great tire, but man some of the lava rocks out here are murder are tires, so if the Trxus are softer than the MT/Rs, then I am not sure I wanna go the Super Swamper route. :? But MAN I want them!

It almost comes down to what is the responsible/cost effective thing vs. what is the thing I have wanted for as long as I remember. :x

incubusmike,

I understand what your saying about tearing the tires up on the rocks. If your going to be doing alot of "rock crawling" compared to "mudding" then maybe you should look into a tire like the BF mud terrain KM2. I have read some small reviews on the tire and it seems to be very good (especially on the rocks). The truxus are NICE tires so you probly can't go wrong with either. If BF doesn't have your size in the km2's they will in late spring!

So BFG MT KM2s are expanding their tires sizes? If so, when? Those KM2s are amazing. But they will most definitely be more expensive. Is there somewhere I can go to check out when the KM2s will be adding a 31X10.5 15R tire? Thanks.

The guys in CO(the hard core kind) are saying don't waste your money on the new BFG KM2's,they say they are worse then the old style BFG MT's.Alot of them have tested them and hated them.Just to let you know what I've heard about the KM2's.

TJKJ thanks for the input! I have been reading some reviews and have not had any "actual feedback" from anyone about them. Maybe just another tire that "looks" good and doesn't perform! Not a surprise!

That's how the guys who have ran them here in CO are labeling them-----trailer queen tires.

I can get a set of 5 BFG ATs mounted and balanced here in town for $750 out the door. I think that pretty much finalizes it for me! :)

Exactly, mud is a bit hard to come by out here in the high desert.
