On my CRD there isn't any room under the hood for a second battery. Logical choice is the rear and build it into my cargo setup. Just curious where everyone else has installed their second battery.

Thanks,

Third battery...isn't that a little overkill?? I don't recall many people on here running a dual battery setup.

You only need three batteries if you running and on board Ready Welder. You isloate them from your electrical system and then combine them to run the welder... Yes - for "most" it's overkill.

I think even with a gasser the 2nd. batt would have to go in the backend. I haven't heard of anyone on here doing it though.

The only thing that would work under the hood would be to Odysee dry cells but the longevity isn't that great on them.

I guess at this point I'll be running a 2 gauge wire to the front and building the second battery into the rear cargo setup some how. I still find it hard to believe that no one else has installed a second battery though.... I'll post more as I begin to build out the rear cargo area. I guess I need to begin a build thread in the CRD forum.

To be fair, you only started the thread about 7 hours ago :P

Does the second one have to be the same dimensionally as the first? I know there are some other batteries out there designed for high-drain applications like computer UPSs that are 12v but different orientation. obviously, though, they're not as likely to be weather resistant.

One place you might try is immediately behind the stock location over the ABS valves. I know folks have put bypass filters in there. You could EEK a little more room out if you replaced the stock unit with a slightly smaller one, too. Just thinking out loud....

aslostasyou: Get in touch with John at: www.jolynenterprises.com John can do ANYTHING with 12v systems. People with 1 million dollar motorhomes trust his work so I think you can. He lives in Lake City, FL. Not all that far from Tampa. Tell him Terry McGee said hi also.

Terry

His web page says that when other installers need help they call him. I was there when it happened once!

Your a CRD so...take out the airbox. Then you have a nice space to fit a battery.

Fit a K&N or Amsoil CAT on top of the turbo. You may even get it stuffed in the space behind the steering oil reservoir.
