I'm heading to The Pine Barrens this Sat (4/5) if anyone is interested in joining. I have a pretty much stock Liberty and I'll have another friend with me in my jeep. The only tools we'll have are a 30' tow strap, a 25' cable "come-a-long" (it's a hand held winch,) a shovel and a few other items.

The goal is to get to the Wharton St. Forest some time around 10:30 and I'll have to leave around 3:30. I also have no idea where the trails are and the last time I went we just winged it and still had a blast (2 Jeeps for that one.) If anyone wants to join just let me know, if you know the trails that's even better. Our mission is to find the big sand pit that is somewhere in the Pine Barrens. If you know where that is please tell me how to get there.

I should be able to make it, though 10:30 is a tad on the early side for me, but whatever :) You pick a place to meet. I should be able to get my stepbrother to come with and maybe a few others from this board.

Okay!

JerseyKJ I'll give you a call midday-ish and let you know what the deal is... Though it sounds like Scooby is planning on heading out by 3:30 or so :(

Its horrible that as soon as you go through the Del Water Gap on Rt 80 gas is 20+ cents more a gallon. I filled up in Jersey the last time I went home 2 weeks ago at 2.99/gal. 115 mi. ish one way to school...so my tank does not last very long. Filled up today in PA at 3.25 a gal...wasn't completely empty and it was 48 and change...so I try and keep my extended trips to a minimum during the school year since I'm living off whatever money I make over the summer :)

BeepBeepJeepJeep-- I'll be sure to listen for my phone. Even though scoobysnax has to go early we can still stay and play if you are free the rest of that day. Or I can find a baby sitter for my kid and we could do a full day sun. Sat. most likly the wife and kid would tag along. Either way I like to get lost in the woods--literaly.

I'm thinking we should get ready for some mud. Looks like heavy rain tonight, more rain tomorrow and then sat will be on and off rain and T-storms with temps in the low 50's. I'm going regardless of the weather, some of the roads dry out really quickly b/c they are are all sand roads and some of them will have water. The last time I was there I was mostly on the sand roads and had a good time. The few remnents that I was able to find of old dried up mud pits all had drive arounds. On the other hand if we mind the bogs it'll be really wet if you get stuck and have to get out. I'd love to find some stream crossings if possible and again, I want to find that big sand pit. But I'm sure we'll play it by ear and just get ourselves lost which is always fun, just make sure you have a full tank.

I'll send you a PM with my cell phone # so we can link up. Right now I'm not sure where a good place will be. I'll be coming from Brooklyn so if you're heading south maybe a rest stop on 95 otherwise we'll just pick a place in Batsto which is a tinny little town and step back in time right in the Pine Barrens. I'm pretty sure there is a general store to grab some coffee while we're waiting to meet up. http://www.batstovillage.org/

It'll take me a little over 2 hours to get down there. I hope to leave between 8:30 and 9 so I guess I won't get down there until about 10:30 and 11.

I know batsto village very well. Its a neet place to walk around no matter how many times you've been there. I go there a couple times a year and I get there by going through the woods which makes it even better.
