Might have to hit the area with some PB blaster or penetrating oil before trying to remove said O2 sensor...

Some types of clay bake (like pottery) on anything hot enough. I'd want to get that off though, it'll hold heat.

Hey, We lived south of Gallup, NM for 3 years, we still own land there. And yes, the clay bakes on, sometimes pretty thick stuff.

Just the same principle as ceramic coating the headers, you want the pipes to hold the heat and transfer less to the outside areas, makes for a more efficient exhaust system and cooler running temps.

I never thought of it that way………………………….Good point! Our New Mexico property is right off a Forest Road, and we have to drive on a BIA road to get to our property. Even though the BIA road has gravel, it turns into mud after a lot of snow melt or during the monsoon season. I remember on several occasions having to drive through mud that was up to our axel. Once that mud/clay combo dries on the inside of the wheels, then it really throws your wheel balance off. There was one time I could hardly drive over 30 mph as the Jeep shook so bad I thought my alignment was screwed up. That New Mexico mud turns into hard packed adobe, and it can be a pain to take off from the inside of the wheels once it dries. You’d think once you got the clay wet it would soften, FALSE. I had a 2,000 PSI power washer, and it was still hard to get off.

That does make sense when you look at it that way...thanks for pointing that out!

The clay in this region is greasy blackish stuff that crumbles when it dries, but it sticks to everything like poo to a diaper...terrible stuff to drive through, too. This is one reason I try to avoid mud at all costs...

Sounds like that yellow clay you all are talking about is a pain to deal with though...
