*Update* - I have my buddy coming w/his winch later today. He let me know that he has a rated line pull of 9,000 lbs. I do not have tow hooks, is there any place in particular that I should tie to?

I'm guessing from earlier post that you are in college and maybe don't have a ton of funds to go spend on getting your rig out... However, the only answer I can think of is a class III hitch... in other words something designed for 5000 lbs... These can be had new for ~$125+ if you shop around. For the sake of economy you could try savage yards. I know that could come as bad news... potentially good news is that some don't require drilling if you find the right one. Alternative would be recovery from the front.

Wrap it around the axle near the control arms and it should be fine. Dont be jerking real hard though.

It may not harm it.. I looked at mine. The trailing arm is pretty sturdy. The thing that is sketchy is where the trailing arms are anchored to the body. Looks to me like stamped sheet metal???

the rear LCA's on an '02 KJ are also stamped sheetmetal.

I figured he would've learned after the first time. M&S does not mean Mud&School...and those are not off road tires. Just an FYI

The factory tow hooks are only rated at 5000lbs.

The factory rail tie downs(the oval holes in the unibody rails) are rated at about 1500lbs each.

What I meant was the the shipping tie down point, we have them on the rear left. You have to remove it in order to install the tow hitch. Not the best thing to recover from but better than nothing.

You mean the rear tow hook? The rear tow hook mounts to the left rear also and also needs to be removed to install the hitch.

Either way 5000lbs limit on that to.

my BEST advice to get you out of this problem for next time:

DON'T GO WHEELING WITH 1 RIG!

I did that once befor a REAL LONG TIME AGO

was stuck for an entire weekend and burned a full tank of gas and was in the same spot but my YJ was in half way burried in the mud. I had to get a local dozer guy to bail me out.
I spent days cleaning the YJ. It was fun but will never go alone again, unless I know where I am going.

unless you have self recovery gear ie winch, highlift, trees...

My KJ was rescued at 5pm today. Had my buddy come in with his winch and he pulled me out like nothing ever happened. Attached the cable to the left side of my rear axel and no damage occurred. Link with pics will be up in a few minutes.
