What are your guys take on this set up ?

This beautiful Stealthbox® blends in perfectly with the Liberty’s cargo area. A carpet-covered grille protects the woofer and hides the woofer from prying eyes.

THE HARD DATA:
Contains one 12W3v3-4 subwoofer in a sealed enclosure. 500 watt power handling. Wired for 4 ohm mono. Installs in the driver side rear cargo area. Roll-up cargo cover remains fully functional after installation. A steel-mesh grille is included to protect the subwoofer driver.Use of the driver’s side tie-down cleats is eliminated.

Lost precious cargo space. No experiecne with it though. JL Rockies knows all about it.

like Tokyojoe said " lost precious cargo space" but if you can deal with that JL makes great products I heard one a few years ago in a tacoma reg. cab it had 1 8" sub ran with a rockford amp an I couldn't beleive it was only an 8 sounded more like at least a ten.. I've personaly run a 10w6 a few years ago in a custom box in a x-cab dakota.. an it rocked.. my only issue when I looked at one for my kj was the cost, usually run somewhere between 500-650..

yea i know it kills space but i just want a lil more ooompf in the bass department. I was thinking maybe putting the infinity/mopar deal under the rear driver side or maybe a custom 8" enclosure.

another idea is find a single or dual truck box made for a regular cab pick-up or a thin hatchback style box..one that has the speakers mounted on the flat side an not the angle side works best but either would do... have it sit tight right behind the rear seats.. might need to have some sort of strap set up to hold it upright depending on thin the box is.. mount the amp where ever ya want or can fit it.. if your creative you can put some sort of power off switch inline on the power wire a nmake it so it can be easily pulled out when the extra space is needed.. if ya shop around for the same cost of the JL you can get a nice box,amp, sub package.... woofersetc.com sounddomain.com an crutchfield.com have good selection that I know of...

i'd like to add to jeepzillas post. yes a truck box would work like mtx sub/box/amp package with the 4500 or 5500 series subs i forget which one but i would recommend staying away from the online dealers except for crutchfield. it is best to go to a local dealer and deal with them person to person. alot of online audio dealers do not include a manufactures warrenty thus making you wonder if they are certified to sell that product. you can find a list of unauthorized dealers on the mtx website. but back to the subject. the mopar under seat woofer is junk. remember stock sucks. that's why we replace stuff on our jeeps ie. springs shocks struts tires skid plates and so on. i think the best solution is a shallow mount subwoofer jl is coming out with the TW5, earthquake has a range of 6-15 inch shallow mounts, rockford fosgate has a slim line, mtx, clarion, and alot more offer a shallow mount that sometimes only need a box that only requires .50 cub ft and sometimes less.

see thats what i am talking about. I would rather not loose cargo space. But if i could get a lil shallow mounted sub or something that would be great. I don't need thunderous bass, although that would be nice, just not practical for the KJ.

I almost wish I had seen that before I built my own. And I agree with those who dont want to loose cargo space. I use the back of my lib for work everyday so I built something to keep the subs and amps out of the way. Mine is mounted the same way too, using the original tie down points.

you could also mount the subs on the ceiling... would take alot of work but it's possible.

I have the Stealthbox installed in my KJ. Does not take up much space at all especially when you consider it's a 12" driver.

Can you buy the stealth box and put another 12" sub in it?or does it specifically have to be JL Audio?

well its made by JL so..... i would imagine if u wanted to take it out and put in ur own sub u could. just would have to make sure its a small box type sub. but i don't think they sell it empty

It weighs 34 Lbs. so it's heavy duty. I think it will hold over 200 Lbs.

I tried to keep as much of my space as posible so I built the box's to fit the kj and used rockford fosgate shollow 10's.

I too wanted a subwoofer but didn't want to loose precious trunk space. I looked into the Jeep brand underseat sub boxes but felt that they would be too weak (80 watts) and with only 6.5" driver, their frequency range would be limited.

I made custom sub enclosures for under the front seats out of fiberglass and mdf, which utilize the 8" shallow mount pioneer subs. They ended up being around .35 cu/ft each, which is right in the middle of the recomended volume range listed by pioneer. I have yet to decide whether I am going to paint them or cloth cover them.

I think they came out pretty nice, here's what I did in case anybody wants to try it also:
I got 2 large plastic bags, shoved each one under the front seats (at their lowest position). I then inflated them with compressed air and sprayed 2 part "A/B" insulation foam into each of the inflated bags. When the foam hardened, about 1 minute later, I lifted the unbolted seat up and removed the molded foam form.

I then trimmed the foam forms with a serrated knife and used them as molds to fiberglass. Once the first few layers of fiberglass cured, I removed the foam, I reinforced the fiberglass shell on the inside. I used a piece of MDF for the tops of the enclosures so it was relatively easy to fiberglass. I then traced the tops of the fiberglass shells onto the MDF, cut out the shapes and used a rabbeting bit on the router around the edges to create a strong epoxied joint between the fiberglass shell and the MDF.

I also had to make custom subwoofer grilles out of stainless steel brake lines and steel rings cut to size on a lathe.

I will post some pictures of the enclosures and all aforementioned components in their current state.
