Who has trimmed that excess front-end plastic off their 05-07 KJ? How did you do it? What problems did you encounter? Did you completely remove the fender-well liners, or trim them too? How did you connect across the fender (straight cut, angled cut)? Did you remove the bumper to do the work, or cut it while the bumper was attached?

I have seen a few threads where people talked about doing it, but I thought it might be nice to have a bunch of stories, options, and ideas all in one place.

I had to trim the air dam when I put on 32" tires. I used an air saw to trim it and the front of the fender liner. I've had no problems.

I used a sharp knife.

Started by cutting the air dam and the piece of plastic that its mounted too off between the two ends.
Then trimmed the end caps on each side up to the fold and cut straight back about 1 1/2 under the marker lights on each side.
Finally went into the wheel wells and trimmed them up until they cleared everything.
Reused the replaceable rivets in each wheel well, just moved them up to capture the liner against the flair.

First time I used a utility knife. Second time I used a tin shears, liked that better. I also have the liner cut to just above my fog lights. Joe

I took off the air dam and removed the fender liners in the front. I also made a brace that I attached to the bumper under the side marker light. I did this because things looked a little loose. I used a small tree limb saw for the cutting! It made a ruff cut but I ordered a steel bumper so it really didn't matter.

Terry,
I am not sure I will be as brave as you on that cut! maybe if I get a new bumper it won't matter then! BTW, it looks from the pic like your tires are wearing on the inside edges.

Must be the lighting or something. I check and they are wearing even. Thanks for watching out for a fellow Dark Khaki KJ!

I just used a utility knife, made a few light cuts and snapped off right where I'd cut. Came out really clean, other than the tow hook cut-outs that I just cut all the way through in a hurry. Still need to clean those up.

I used my handy dandy dremel with a small cut off wheel on it and it sliced right through like butter. I will get pics and post em up tom. I have soem on here somewhere but I just did a bit more trimming before our Carolina LOST run this past weekend.

Do you have a side view of your bumper? I want to do this, but I have no idea what it will look like from a side view. You too fulltimer! Side views would be great. :)

Cool, thanks Dje Ryu. I can't decide if I wanna go that route or not. I just bought some 31X10.5X15 Trxus tires and they will be going on shortly (still need the lift but couldn't pass up a good deal on the tires) and I guess I'll have to see how they fit first. I imagine they will rub up front (I have already bashed down the pinch weld) but I hope not.

15" rims? You'll need to worry more about those rubbing on the rotors. Although, you'll probably have rubbing in the front, as well, even if you find rims that fit.

I checked around and people said the rims would be fine. I hope they were right.

edited last post to show fender liner and how I re-used one of the plastic rivets for stability. I also heat-gunned a bit for a little extra clearance. I'm definitely going to a true 31" next time I need tires.
