I was driving from IA to AZ one winter in a 3/4 ton suburban towing a loaded U-Haul trailer. Pulled off in Denver for the night because it was snowing pretty hard. On the way to find a hotel, there was an empty parking lot with a good foot of fresh powder on it call my name. "Burchie... come do donuts with the trailer attached to the truck". Talk about cracking the whip.

I don't play around on ice(especially not with my stock tires). After seeing a AWD minivan do an unexpected 360 on the road in front of me I have always taken it easy. I must say the look on the man's face as he spun around was priceless. I have never seen eyes that wide in my life.

I have to say, the lesson was well learned. I made the 15 mile drive home from bestbuy today in a whiteout without sliding once. I saw 4 pick up trucks in ditches on the way home and just pointed and laughed.

i did the highway spin after hitting some black ice in a Geo Tracker while in Alaska right in front of an 85 k-5 Blazer i looked left and saw the truck a second later i looked right and saw the truck then the Geo caught the snow bank and it sucked me into the median....that was not a fun adventure. buy the time a tow truck got there three other cars had slid off the other side of the road. and hit the fence.

Burchie can attest to that :D

Weekend we came back from Death Valley it was raining so hard, and everybody around me was doing 80-85 in the rain, and slightly below that around turns. It was just crazy. There was one overturned semi on the I-5 south that crossed the cement median blocks and was halfway on the southbound lane and half on the northbound lane. I kept mine at a sane speed around turn, but I admit I took it a little fast on the straights :P

I'd have to say that the one thing that surprised me the most when I moved to CO was the snow driving. You'd think that people that have lived their whole lives in CO would know how to drive in the snow. NOPE! They all claim that they are the best snow drivers around all the way up to the time they impact your back bumper.

When I bought my first Jeep a 98 Grand that winter in Scotland we had a big sustained freeze I was turning off a mian road onto an ungritted side street (as i was to find out) the whole jeep went very loose as a magnificent pirouet started to occur.
I gave her full lock and felt the front begin to pull me away from the opposite keb but as the road was deserted I kept into the throttle and drove at 45 degrees for about 50 feet "driftin'" style having a bit of fun, my better half beside me however was not quite so pleased
I can confirm that in 4wd the quadratrac system was really good fun and safe if you react correctly

Colorado is now a mutt state. Especially the Springs and Denver areas. So many people are from other states and they don't know how to drive in snow. They think they do, but they don't. If you see a Texas plate during the winter up here, avoid them like the plague.
