I have a 2005 KJ Sport that is my daily driver. I currently have Goodyear Wrangler SR-A's on it (235/70R16). Unfortunately, the truck is completely stock at this moment. I am looking to replace the tires with something more along the lines of a MT or aggressive looking AT tire. The problem is I drive a highway to work everyday up to about 75 mph. The SR-A's look to much like a car tire on the libby.

I am not currently using the truck for off-road but will in the future. My last truck was an 84 Bronco (full-size) with a 9 inch lift and 35 inch Wrangler MT/R's. The tires were very loud rolling down the road but never gave me any problems at higher speeds. I actually really enjoyed the sound of the tires so I am looking for something similar but without rubbing.

I am wondering what others are running without lifts on stock rims that have an aggressive look but still drive highway normally.

These are the rims I currently have. I am still very new to this forum and I am not sure how solid these are either. Should they be replaced also?

The stock rims are just fine for highway use and mild off roading. The stock tires suck big time. The AT tires would work well for you. I have Goodyear Silent Armours on right now, they are an AT and work very well. Because of rubbing I did have to do a little work on her. You could go smaller for a better fit. You will get a LOT of tire suggestions...all good.

I ran 225/75 MT/R's for some time on my at the time non-lifted KJ,the 225/75's are just a tad bit taller then the 235/70's and just about 3/8" thinner.The MT/R's in the 225/75 size are pretty good on the OEM rims like you got,not to heavy either,load range "D".
,and zero rub.I never noticed any mpg or power loss either and the noise wasn't as bad a a 35" MT/R.

Hard to believe that is the same KJ you have today...Back on topic...I don't have a pic right now but the Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos look good on a stock KJ and do great on and offroad.

Since my driving habits are almost exactly like yours, I'll recommend what i have...I love these AT's and they perform fantastic in all weather, and really shine in the ice, wet and snow. They look aggressive, they have a nice square AT shoulder, and they have deep aggressive treads with probably more siping than any tire around. Nokian Vatiiva ATs in 245/70/16 with zero rub, no trimming or pounding on an unlifted stock suspension 03 KJ. some pics for ya:








They have almost the same tread pattern as Dueler Revo's but cost about $50 less per tire. Not too heavy, almost 40 pounds less per tire than KO's and pretty darn reasonable on the bank account. I've had these now through one winter (since last September) and I will be buying these over and over again for my rides. Great stuff!!!!

If you want an MT, the only way to go is a 225/75-16 without rubbing. a 245/75 or 215/85 will rub. without a lift, any 225/75-16 MT will outperform ANY AT on the trail. IMO, the wet traction of the Wrangler MTR's sucks, but it's not as bad as the stock rubber. the wheels are fine...keep them until you feel the need to upgrade.

in 235/70-16, there are plenty of AT options...but going to a 245/70-16 or 235/75-16 means you're going to a less common size, so price goes up.

supposedly the quietest MT on the market is the Kumho KL71...and it's CHEAP. my next set of tires will be those.

I've never had a problem with MT/R's and any wet surface,snow,or ice.They preformed awesome in the mud also,and a very tough tire to ruin.

I've had my Firestone Destination A/T's for about 2 weeks now, not a single complaint so far. No road noise on the highway either.

Yeah great tire. I'm running 235/70 when I was stock (still running them now with a lift). I had them for about 12K miles.

Yes Firestone Destination ATs did great, ran them about 30,000 miles and had to sell them, couldn't wear them out and I wanted a bigger set, ran the 24570s before and after I was lifted.
