Good Morning All and Happy Thanksgiving!!!

I was flipping through my KJ manual the other night because I thought I was having an issue with 4 Lo. I got to the keyless entry/evic section. Has anyone discovered a secret way to program the user customizable fetaures that require the EVIC w/o having it???

Also I think it was FreedomKJ that had posted the install. Has anyone had decent luck finding one of these to have installed?? any suggestions as always are greatly appreciated!

Well, If I'm not wrong... only very few things can be "programmed" by the normal consumer without the EVIC or even better a DRBIII the dealerships use.

You can find the EVIC units on eBay, in junk yards, or even at the dealership. eBay is the best place to grab an older one cheap. I would imagine that your 03 would be best matched with an EVIC from an 02 or 03. But, I wouldn't try an 04-05 EVIC with your 03 Liberty.

Last week, a LOST member was successful at installing an 04 Grand Cherokee EVIC into his 04 Liberty Sport. I'm about to install an 05 KJ EVIC into my 05 KJ Renegade this weekend.

You're correct about the best year EVICs for an '03. With the '04 though an EVIC from an '04 Grand will not function properly as the '04 WJ is really an '03 1/2.

IMO, the '02 Grand Cherokee EVIC is easily the best. This is the only year that potentially offers all features, including TPMS (beginning in '02) and Instant MPG (ending in '02).

Look for 56042749AE or ....AF for Homelink w/o TPMS; 56042756AF or ...AG for Homelink and TPMS. The '03 ...AH/...AI models will be similar but lack Instant MPG, which I use often (supposedly for cost cutting reasons). In this case, newer isn't necessarily better.

While you do get the Instant MPG in older models, that is offset by the fact that the temperature readout on these older units will not work in 04 and later Libertys. Personally I went with an 04 LIberty Evic for my 05, as the temperature is more important to me.

Yes, but K9 has an '03 Liberty so it's not an issue with him. If you don't care about Instant MPG then that's another matter. But if you want that feature, that's the only way to get it.

If you have an '04 or later, Outside Air Temperature is easy to obtain through devices other than EVIC's so it's no big deal. Since OAT is such a small part of the EVIC's capabilities, those who make their decision not to install over that issue are, IMO, really missing out on a great tool!!

While the "Instant MPG" function is cool, I actually wish my EVIC didn't have it as I find it a bit distracting. I want to keep watching it as I drive.

If anyone has an EVIC from an '03 KJ or WJ and wants to trade it for one from an '01 WJ with the instant MPG function I'd be happy to trade. All the functions work properly.

If you find it distracting, why don't you switch to another function or turn the EVIC off? Is yours it stuck on Instant MPG?

For those who are considering a retrofit, here's what Instant MPG can do for you. It's the only function that you can use to improve your fuel consumption. It gives instant feedback on the effects of acceleration, gearing, speed, headwinds, drafting, coasting, slope and any modifications.

I use it more than any other readout except the speedometer. It's let me experiment with different driving styles and, over the past 18 months, has paid for my entire EVIC installation in fuel savings. It's the only EVIC function you can't calculate or get from another instrument; if I could only have one this would be it!

On the other hand, if you're not interested in fuel economy, it's probably useless.
