I got my windows tinted and I dont like the film brand they used (should have gone with (Lumar) , but another place will charge $10 a window to remove the tint before replacing it. How hard is it to remove tint? Any tips? Thanks

Very easy, get a nice new razor blade, ammonia, and rags. Ammonia will soften and remove the glue, the razor blade will scrap off the window tint. usually once you have the tint start pulling, you can just pull it off by hand(at least with new tint).

I used a razor blade to get some peeled back and then just pulled the rest off. The problem is the glue on the window, I used alot of windex and a blade or 2 to get it all off. I am sure there is an easier way but....

ah, ammonia. Didn't think of that.

i used one of them little steamer things. just start steaming at a corner, peel it up a bit, then continue peeling down slowly while steaming infront of where you are pulling. it didn't leave any adhesive behind.

did the place you went to have a guarantee or anything. I know there are a lot of little "chop shops" down there.

use the razor blade to GENTLY score the tint horizontaly in about 3 places.

get the strongest amonia you can stand to work with. spray is down so it soaks into the score marks. the stronger and straighter the amonia the faster it will work. will loosed the glue and almost peal off after a while, but will also kind of melt the plastic base of the film too.

USE IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA or outside. keep applying the amonia, being careful NOT to over spray onto the door panels.

Use straight edged razor blade or single edged blade to clean up any left over residue.

no kids or pets around as you do this.

Isn't that stuff like lighter fluid? Pretty flamable and VERY bad on some plastics.

lumar is some good stuff. Ive had it on my front windows for a few years now it still looks great.

We got some windows in another car tinted at a place called 'trailblazers' and that tint turned purple in no time, looks awful. No, I did not use ammonia based cleaners to clean them.
