BFG MT or Goodyear MT/R

what's louder, because I want people to hear me coming. Also what is best in all conditions ad which has the longest tread life?

Not sure which is louder. I ran the MTR on 2 different jeeps and I would have gotten them again but I wanted something different this time around. The BFG MT is a good tire too, never used them personally, but my dad had them on his ford f350 and he hated them. He rotated his tires regularly and he still couldn't keep them from wearing down every other lug. Really bad too. Had a ton of tread left and he had to toss them because the vibrations got too bad. Not sure why this happened but it was a pretty crappy deal. Other than my dad and a guy at a local 4X4 shop, who said they sucked but then couldn't really explain why, everyone I have heard from has like the BFG.
I do know the MTR was good on the road, wet, and icey. They are good offroad, not great, and they get decent mileage for an MT.

I have run both and lean towards the BFG's, but thats just me. I ran both on my Wrangler the MTR's were louder and wore quicker, but were probably a bit better offroad. The BFG MT's just seem to last so I stick with them. A good all around tire but do suck a bit on ice. I got 48,000 miles out of the last set so they went back on the Wrangler. I now have MTR's on the Libby and they have been a good tire, bit noisey but a good tire. They just always seem to wear quicker than I would expect. I hope to get 25,000 out of this set.

If you want a louder tire the MT/R's are your tire.I have had 3 set's of MT/R's and all have lasted a long time,and never had a flat,never.

245/75's-40,000miles and still had about 1/3 tread left,swapped them to my KJ from my Grand.

225/75's-put stock sized tires on my KJ at 6000miles,ran the 225/75's till 17,000miles and had virtually 100% tread left.

265/75's-put on at 17,000miles when lifted and ran till 50,000miles and still had 1/3 tread left and many,many hard wheeling miles on them.

I have ran BFG MT's(and AT's) and would never look at a BFG tire again,went through 6 tires in less then 200miles due to extremely weak side wall,my Blazer only saw mud,had 6 tree roots penatrate 6 BFG tires sidewall,weak,weak :evil:

Take a look at the new KM2's. Supposed to be better sidewalls, but I would still go with MTR's. Better with rocks. If you are in mud, go with the MT KM2's.

I've heard on the CO4x4 board those new KM2's aren't worth a darn,look good but not good when off the pavement.I have never seen them or used them so I couldn't say but if they are anything like the older BFG's I'd be running as fast I can the other direction.I've also seen offroad magizines have been rating the MT/R's better in mud then the new KM2's.

If you decide to do the MT/R's, and if you have a little time, start watching craigslist, ebay & the for sale sections of TJ forums. You can round up never been on the ground Rubi's spares for a pretty good savings. Like 1/2 price. 5 of mine still have the nubs on them.

If you want to go new, ordering them through Sam's club was the Cheapest I found with Walmart being 2nd.

Had 3 sets of MTR's now have BFG Mud Terrains, alot quieter but Load Range D the MTR's were E. First trip Off Road went okay and I think they shed the mud better but also never had a flat with the MTR's we'll see with the BFG's.

the KM2's i dont believe come in the size we use....at least not in Q tec and 4WD parts

BFG is determining how far they are going to expand their tire sizes in the KM2s. As of now they are not available in our general sizes that we all run on our KJs. I called around to a ton of shops because I was interested in maybe running them but no dice.

As many times as I have heard of folks complaining about the BFG's and their weak side walls, I have heard just as many about the MTR's. I take it all with a grain of salt as I have not (knock on wood) lost a side wall on either type of tires. Put both through their paces in the rocks. Just remember things can and will happen. If you really want a strong side wall tire, neither tire is the one for you. There are far better choices out there. They will be a lot less road friendly and probably not come in sizes you want to put on a Liberty. Key word being probably............... :lol:

just my 2 cents, i looked them up an the only size the km2's come in for or kj's is a 245/70-17 ( 30.5 ) I know most guys run 16's but might be good for those who want to keep with the 17's that came with there's.. I've thought of those or the maxxis bighorns in 255/65-17's for mine..

While most 255/65R17's seem to run about 30 inches tall, the Bighorns are listed at 31.1 x 11. I don't know if that's a typo on Maxxis' part or not. They also make a 245/70R17 at 30.8x9.7 inches.

wish they made Ground Hawgs in our size , now they can make some noise going down the road. Last vehicle (69 Bronco) I had them on all my employees knew I was coming 5 minutes before I got there if they were outside!

Remember when your choices for a mud tires were Gateway Gumbo Monster Mudders & the Ground Hawg? Some guys ran Goodyear Terra tires.... Ah, the '70's.......

wasnt much choice for sure, heck I remember when radials came out the old guys would come into the tire store and tell me they didnt want them newfangled things, too soft, wanted real tires!

Like to have some of the vehicles back that I had Gumbos and Hawgs on
