What is your placement plan? Where do they do RTA Mic placement now? Still in the drivers seat? Do they allow time correction? You said sealed box right?

it's gonna be a ported box but i'm not competing because it's just not profitable for the businesses to pay a bunch of money to run a show. i haven't competed before
so i have no clue what you are talking about. i'd just stick the mic in the box :lol:

if you are thinking about doing SQL, you need to read the IASCA rule book to help you plan your system, it can save you money in the long run. I competed in the German GASCA for 2 years till I could not afford it anymore.

well today i plan on going to get the box made and pick up another amp so prob another 1000. it do get pretty expensive so hopefully i wont have to upgrade for a very long while. im going to have to upgrade the front
components cause they going to die once the sub is hooked up. might just upgrade to the mtx 6.1 or the 2008 series RE XXX 6.5 components not sure which one yet.

I have been lucky on buying stuff. It has been with me for 6 years now. The Focals are new becasue I did not want to install the Infinity 1CS system.

well goes to show if you do things right a system could last you years and still sound good to. i ran around to 4 different shops yesterday and finally got a decent price on a custom box and i'm going to pick it up in an hour or so. still not sure on the amp though. i'm going to raise hell with this shop till i get what i want. then i'll never go back cause they suck.

well i got the amp in and running and just picked up the box and the guys at the shop helped me wire it up (even though i know how to wire it up but i'm lazy and got me free 10 gauge wire to wire it all and screws cause i don't have any). i didn't tune it right away and everything was set all low on the amp so when i got home i poped the tailgate and turned the gain up about 1/2 the way and then i turned up the volume and oh my god this thing is monsterous!!! the sub just went bananas and the volume was only about 1/4 volume! a sub of this magnitude has to be properly broken in otherwise bad things can happen. from the short time i did have it up the sub sounded seriously good and was very accurate. in 2 weeks time (to break it in) i'll know it's true power so gain is set pretty low so i won't break the sub. pics to come as soon as i mount the 2 channel and get all the wires cleaned up.

man you should get another battery if that thing is pushin 2400 watts. what kind of sub is that? looks like a mini jack hammer. port the box. it'll sound better.

it's rated at 1600 at 4 ohms which is what it's wired to. the box is ported to specs actually the port runs back and about 3/4 of the box. the build quality is pretty shady though but i got a decent deal.

i've got 2 kenwood 12's in a sealed box with an 800 watt kenwood amp bolted on the back. my firend has 1 12" kicker running a 300 watt amp but his is ported. almost as loud as mine.

i'm sorry to hear that. generally a ported box always does better against a sealed box but it depends how well the box is built. a box to small for the subwoofer will choke and will never reach it's full potential and a box to big will mostly likely be over powered and burn to death. he maybe louder but you might sound better. kickers series is designed mostly for high output. i had a pair of kenwood excellon 12s and they sounded pretty good and hit decently but never hit as hard as 2 cheap 12 inch earthquake tremor x with the same amp. but i ended up burning out the kenwoods and if i knew now what i knew then i would still have them. this new re xxx is supreme but no sub is the best cause people run different electrical systems, amps, wires, head units, rca cables, batteries, caps, vehicles (trunks, hatches, truck beds), box sizes/types, and sound deadening.

just went out to take a couple of photos. i still have to tune the amp, hide some wires, and screw down the 2 channel.

this isn't the best amp in the world but it'll be enough for now until i can get my hands on a good sundown amp.

well im not sure how loud it gets but i have to wait until cone and voice coil is nice and broken in so i won't be able to get a good estimate. like i sad in the earlier post it went just nuts at half volume and it's running a 4 ohm load on this amp which is rated for 1,600 rms at 4 ohms. so i say it was getting a decent 800-900 before i turned it down but it still blew me away. there is supposed to be a db drag (kinda like a drag race but with subwoofers) sponsored by the shop i got the amp from. it's only classes are 90 db and 100db but something tells me i'm going to get around 135-140+ when i get the sub broken in and an couple of extra kenetik batteries to help keep the amp fed. i have to go to the shop on monday to get my registration form and then upgrade the electrical system. my lights dimmed a little before with the phd2000 wired for 2 ohm 1000 watt rms but this phd5000 eats so much amps i thought my car was going to shut off cause the lights dimmed about 60%. i thought about a capacitor but the only reason why it would be installed is A looks and B to have an amperage meter/voltage meter so i can monitor the electrical and see if i still need to add more batteries or a larger alternator to replace my 200 amp custom alternator. well it's time to go out and tune this beastly monster.

A ported box will sound louder at a certain frequency but a good sealed box will ALWAYS sound better across all frequencies. It all depends on what you listen to, if you just want some booming bass and it's nice low and long bass tracks then a ported does fine. Once you start getting into tight fast kick bass or something like that a sealed will really shine. The subs just react quicker and cleaner. It's all personal preference really but a ported box will get muddy real fast if it's not the right kind of music.

As far as SQL comps again you'd be better off with a sealed. For SPL I'm willing to bet in the right class you could do some damage with that setup though!
