well, we should really be using the teraflex bumpstops anyway. dont want to over compress your springs!

im not worried at all about trimming out the bottom of the pocket. that material doesnt seem all too useful, but the top does.

there is a small lip on the top... plus u dont cut anything... grind at a angle, think of it as beveling the edge... make it a slope... no cutting involved just slopeing lol... if that made any sense... lol... sorry for the lack of terms

But is that going to be enough to not contact anymore? Doesn't look like it will be?
Still think if you sell something it should state "you must also use exteneded bumpstops and also you will need to grind out material from the pockets) Not enough is being said to potential customers, sure there are some things on the website , but not in the main text

my rant over now!!!!

Tom did say that

Thanks Zeks, I'll be considering that this week. I have the Tereflex bumpstops on the way and I'll let you all know how much beveling/cutting/cursing is necessary for these to work on my Jeep.

Thanks for all the commentary folks.

Mitch I was under mine again tonight looking at the upper arms, I am tearing into it tomorrow evening and doing some measuring will let you know what I come up with. I have some ideas but have to remove a "few" items to make sure it will work on both sides.

I stopped production of the Gen 5 A-arms, I will go back to the a-arm style of the Gen 4 with the new ball joint of the Gen 5.

It is easer to trim out the bottom of the pockets than the top. This A-arm will be the Gen 4.5, We start production on May 7th 08. Shipping on May 15th

If you have the Gen 5 and want a Gen 4.5, I will exchange them. Send a email to sales@jeepinbyal.com with your Gen 5 order number, I will send you Gen 4.5 A-arms with a UPS return tag.

A big Thanks Marlin for backing up a bit and coming out with the Gen 4.5s, this is great news for everyone.

Keep up the great work you are doing for us KJ owners!

Tom

Marlin,

You might think about posting in the group buy thread as well. I know a whole bunch of people (myself included) were bailing on that due to the fit issues on the gen 5 arms.

Thanks for your great customer service in listening to the comments here and fixing the problem!

Now THAT is customer service. I really like the construction of the Gen 5s. I hope Marlin retains the same build structure (ball joint mounted in plate, plate arms welded to plate) and just corrects that downward bend.

Thanks a bunch Marlin.

I already had my Teraflex bumpstops on order so I installed them yesterday with the Gen 5s still in place. They virtually eliminate the contact completely.

Of course this point may be moot now since the 4.5s are beginning production.

Contact point:

Sloped control arm:

New bumpstop:

New problem (Zerk fitting contact):

you can really tell how hard that was hitting there since that metal is several layers thick. Bet that was a pretty good bang!

That's what she said...

The contact was clearly heard, yes. But I'm more concerned about the stress on the arm though - whether they have sustained any lasting effects.

myself if they were mine I think I would still return them, just knowing how hard they hit! But glad the bumpstops helped!

Looking back through the pictures it appears that even with the extended bumpstop, if a bump was hit hard enough there maybe still some contact is that about right or how close do you see it coming up?

will not remark on the last sentence

With the portion cut away for the grease zerk I could push the arm up and it would stop with 3 - 5 mm of clearance before each pocket. I'm guessing that a hard enough shot could indeed drive it into the pocket.

And you don't want to go with a longer bumpstop than those teraflex units. I'm now waiting to see what those gen 4.5s look like.......

I just installed mine last week and now I can see where
mine are maiking contact as well :( This kind of worries me because I am supposed to be taking a road trip at the ned of next week. I will be doing about 1500 kms (950 miles) of highway driving with my utility trailer behind me. Is this gonna be safe or should I wait for the Gen 4.5's?
