I have a CRD with stock control arms and OME HD coils and struts, do I need extended bumpstops? I have been driving for about 20k without extended bumpstops. Could my struts/springs be blown now?

I doubt that they are but it only takes one time of stacking your springs to cause problems. Also depends on if you compress them say over rocks for an extended period of time, or just drop in a mud hole compressing them quickly then back out, while still bad , not as much as say over the rocks. Many things come into play but to make a system last its best to have them

If the struts were blown, wouldn't you notice that it would handle differently? I would imagine the front end would bounce a lot more.

As far as the problem at hand goes, I'm thinking the extended bump stops are the way to go since I already have the 5's installed (and I should have installed the bump stops to begin with :D ). The thought of replacing them with the 4.5's and then aligning it again doesn't thrill me. I've seen a lot worse here at work. I also will try to open the pocket up a tad with a die grinder.

You would definitely notice if you blew your struts. I blew my oem struts out with a Rough Country 3" lift. All I had to do was tap the brakes and the front bounced around like I was on a trampoline.

I installed my Teraflex bump stops yesterday. While I was in there I massaged the pockets a bit with the die grinder and touched everything up with fresh paint. On the way into work, the normal glide over the speed humps now has a hard thud when reaching the top of the hump....the bump stops work! No marks on the a-arms or pockets.

I also question if cutting the metal in that area will affect the strength to hold the mounts under high stress. Was this a requirement for previous generation Jeepin By al a-arms?

Does anyone have a good link to an installation write up I think I've got to get a set

what you take out will not effect the strenghth of the front end. This was a requirement on the older style as well.

well maybe not a requirement but a suggestion, Al had done it to his during his testing. I did mine some but just to remove excess material at the top and bottom, smoothed it out some
