265/75/16 or 285/75/16??

im currently looking at 2005 jeep liberty 3.7v6 i was wanting to install rock krawler 3inch lift and add either some 265s or 285s i wouldnt mind do alil trimming to fit 285's if they wouldnt rub to bad just on highway driving how bad will they rub and the other question will i have to regear installing either size of these tires?

Whoooo believe me the 265's will rub enough. Not sure if anyone has managed 285's without a SFA. Depending on the weight of your tire, how you drive and what tpe of wheeling you do, will depend on if you NEED to regear. though steping up to the 4.10's will help anyway.

And the Rock Krawler lift is supposed to be a joke from what I have read on here. A total piece o crap. Check out the 4" or 6" lift by Jeepin by Al if you wanna run 285s or the Frankenlift if you choose to run 265s. If you go with the 285s then I would regear as well. I run the frankie II with 31x10.5 tires and they rubbed like a mother until I did a lot of bumper trim and pinch weld bashing. Now they are fine.

Sorry JoeJoe Welcome, did't notice earlier that this was your first post! The 265's require a lot of trimming up front, it is easier on the 05-07's though. For street 265's rub at full lock up front, especially in reverse. If you ever plan to wheel your Jeep (it is a jeep after all) then most people run a 31 1050 15 or 245/75/16's.

Here is a 265/75 stuffed. You'll see why 285/75's just wont fit.

Welcome! Didn't notice it was your first post either. I still get rub at full lock in the front but only in reverse, and like the picture shows, the same thing goes for me but only on the top of the tire. Scared the crap out of me yesterday when I was wheeling. All of a sudden, BBBBBRRRRRRRDDDDDDDD!!!!! Got out and checked and there was zero damage but you could see a tiny spot where the dust had been rubbed off the bottom of the fender. I am picking up an extra rear isolator this week as well to give me a little extra space back there.

yea its my first post here i think i saw liberty somewhere on a site with 285s but i dont remember what kinda kifts are those 4to6 inch i would like to be able to run 32 to 33inch tires

Remember the extra rear isolator wont prevent any rubbing, all it's going to do is give you a little more lift. You will need longer bump stops to prevent rubbing (reduce stuffing).

Welcome JoeJoe1985, your looking at a large tyre there & as the others have said you will need a good lift and some trimming. However if your not going to wheel it and want if for a show car I can't see why the rock krawler lift wouldn't be OK (just don't wheel it hard - or at all).

It would be wise to go with a 245/75/16, as you will have far less problems to deal with. # 1 reason is, gas is getting any cheaper!

I already have 2, 1" hockey pucks installed on each side in the rear and I get rub, so all I can do is get some extra rear isolators and hope that it helps.

Geezzzzzz, are you running 265/75/16's? I've got 2 19mm (38mm = less than 2") bump stops in and that's stopped all my rubbing in the rear, but I'm running 265/70/16's. Hope it helps mate.

Daspes, wonder how many bump stops you need to stop rubbing with 265/75/16's. That's a lot of tyre.

I thought about using the daystar bumpstops and one of the hockey pucks to get 2 3/8" of bumpstop instead of just 2", but I might be getting rid of the daystar ones that came with the lift. Not sure. I don't wanna lose all my articulation.

My concern also, though once the tire meets the fender, you kinda loose your articulation at that point anyway so... I've been considering trying to get a bit more lift in the rear along with larger stops. Was thinking maybe 2 Iso pads, or a shaved down Daystar spacer... Long list of things to do, and it's on here somewhere...

Yeah, but I would rather not rip a fender off too though. Either leave it as it is and possibly rip off a fender or add the daystar and a puck to see if that works. Not sure. 501 wants to buy my daystar bumpstops too, so I don't wanna bail on him either.

I've wheeled it fairly well IMHO, and I dont think there is much danger of ripping the rear out with my set up. Though the metal lip on the inside of the flares has really chewed the heck out of the lip of my tread. What a god awful noise!

I am going to go measure to see if the bolt on the daystar is long enough to fit through the puck and the coil perch. Be right back.

The bolt in the daystar is only 1" long so it won't fit through the 1" puck and the perch. Bummer.
