Does any one have a OEM Mopar roof rack cargo carrier, the one mounted to the roof rails with four big brackets and the wind deflector on front?

If so how do you like it and what weights can it handle. I know mine is installed properly but I thought it would ride lower in between the rails. The way it is there are about three to four inches between the rack and the roof. What do my brother and sister Jeeper with roof racks have to say?
Any problems with this roof rack? Is it a good one or a P. O. S. (Piece of S...)?

William

I use the eBay roof rack with All-J base. See pics.

I have the Mopar basket. Yes it sits a little high. I am thinking of trying to get someone to come up with bracket to use the factory roof rail mounting points for it. But I like the look of the rack itself a lot. I know I have had at least 170 lbs of stuff in it with no problems at all.

With the MOPAR rack, is there anything stopping someone from mounting a Hi-Lift, shovel/axe, or Pull-Pal? I know with some baskets, there are brackets in the way of mounting stuff horizonally on the sides. I'm just trying to explore every option before I purchase one.

How does the mopar rack attach to the rails? Is it easy to remove? I've been thinking about getting some kind of rack but I want it to sit in the garage except when I need it. I'd be nice to find a rack that is relatively easy to remove and install only when it is needed. Suggestions?

I've even looked at the cargo hitch carrier on the Rocky Road Outfitters site as a possible solution -- the one with 8" rise. Would I need an extension for the 2" receiver for that to coexist with the spare tire?

nrifenbark?

The Moparack is easy to take on and off. Thats what I plan on doing. Just looosen the four brackets and put the rack in the storage until you need it. This is why I did not want any of the racks that are welded on, but to each his own

My local dealer is a five star and does have a lot of KJs on the lot but when I was there last none had racks (Mopar or otherwise). I'll drop by again and see if they have a Renegade with a Mopar rack and check it out. I do camp pretty often and would like the option of some kind of rack or cargo hitch carrier but I don't want to live with either one on a daily basis.

Taking the Mopar roof rack off is as easy as removing 8 bolts. It takes about 10 minutes. As far as mounting something to the sides of it. the brackets do protrude on each side but I would think you would be able to mount a shovel and perhaps a hi lift jack but I not sure.

I too have been looking at the Mopar basket. Does anyone know if bicycle mounts (Thule, Yakima and/or Rocky Mountain) can be added to the basket. I know that Wilderness makes adapters, but those baskets are so darn exspensive. Thanks.

Unfortunatly I have no idea. If you get me some measurements of what you need I would be happy to take them for you.

Thanks for the offer. I found an installation sheet for the basket and it looks like I would either have to remove the wind deflector or modify it so that the bicycle mounts could be installed on the front bar. A quick search revealed that there are multiple universal mounts out there made by Yakima, etc., that look to mount to just about any bar shape/size within reason. I think I'll see if Santa will bring it to me for Christmas and I'll let you all know how it works out. Thanks for the help.

Our KJ (named Felix) got a set of the Yakima crossbars and a Loadwarrior basket (with extention) measuring 39"x66" for thanksgiving...The Basket was a requirement for a Xcountry drive and we couldn't wait for a a more "Off Road" style rack but the quality is quite high on the Yakima product. The stock rack attachment is very convenient (almost too easy so I will likely replace the knobs with nuts) mounting kayak and snowboard carriers to the cage are both easy and planned for the future. Now a word about the Yakima system the KJ takes 48" cross rods and could in reaity use the Megawarior basket 48"x52" but the extension for that pushes it out to 48"x75" (a bit long in my opinion. Overallthe system is also a bit tall at 6'11" on a stock suspension. I am so far very happy with it and we now can find it easier at the mall

I also have a Yakima rack on my KJ and I have been nothing but happy with it. I am able to mount the bike racks that are shown, and I still have enough room for a basket or other attachment in between. I am not sure how much more the Yakima basket sticks up, but I can still fit into my very small garage with the rack and bike mounts on.

I installed the Mopar roof rack on mine, the documentation in the box listed the load capacity at 110 lbs. It seems to be holding up well enough and the powder coating is pretty tough. I never did put on the plastic wind deflecter so I can't comment on that part of it.
