OKAY,

So where is the sirius box? is it that box inside the rear right plastic panel, back near the power outlet? Can i disconnect it there? or do i need to do it in the rear of the head unit?

Can I re-use the sat/radio antenna as a GPS antenna?

What to do with the extra hole in my roof? What to do?

Ideas please.

Here is the simple way to get around paying for satelite radio (definately works on XM, never tried it on sirius). If you have a subscription, or get one of the little radios with 3 free months......a couple days before you subsrciption is supposed to expire, unplug the power from the reciever and disconect the antenna. Your service is started and stopped throught a signal sent by the satelites, when your subscription is over, they send out the signal to your specific reciever.....well you can't get that signal if the antenna is unplugged. Wait about a week or 2, then you're good to go. My free trial expired in february and I still get it, too bad XM sucks so i don't use it all that often.

haha, I guess that must work with sirius too! We got a year free as you always do with a new Jeep and once that year was up we couldnt figure out why we were still getting free radio. It just so happens that Jeep is always parked in a garage where the sirius doesnt get signal! So far weve gotten 6 months for free.

Cant you just leave that little antenna where its at woody? Does it annoy you that much?

take care and you could always mount a CB antenna in that hole on the roof!

I think it is way too much because regular radio is free, as in 0 cents a day. Plus I have an ipod and there are zero commercials and I listen to exactly what I want all the time. Plus I own the music. Paying for radio seems fundamentally wrong to me.

TESTIFY BROTHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Remember when TV was free too? Did you complain this loudly when you started paying for cable or do you not have TV in your homes?(unless you are 1 of the few with an antenna still on the roof of your house, but thats going to need a digital converter soon that you will have to pay for)

BTW, your iPod arguement is invalid too. You bought the iPod, you pay for every song you download at .99/song or 9.99/CD or if you listen to CD's you buy those too. nothing is really free.

tear all that stuff out plus the antenna and ship it to me Woody I drive in areas that do not get any signals at all from local radio stations so SAT may be the way to go for me

You do not have to pay for the music to put on an Ipod.

You cannot reuse the antenna for anything else.

If you do get an iPod you can use its jack, I love the iPod route, I have 87 hours worth of music on mine right now, thats 3 days 15 hours continuous play. More music than you can shake stick at.

Much better than 6 cds, and allows your instant desire for something different to play.

I have xm and an ipod. It's nice because the ipod is good for listening to stuff you have and like, the ipod is good for listening to new and different stuff that you might want to add to your collection.

I can't stand commercials and cd's are a hassle when you have a large collection of music you like to listen to, even when they are mp3 cd's.

For your information I don't pay for TV either. I don't pay for cable and or satellite. I watch the shows I want to watch online. I have to pay to get online, but I have to have it for work and school anyway, so I can't get rid of it.

As far as ipod music goes. I OWN IT! I buy the songs. Whether by CD or itunes, I still own it and can listen to exactly what I want, whenever I want. You are paying for radio songs that you do not own. Sounds like a crappy deal to me. Oh, by the way, they play the same songs you get on sirius and xm on free radio. Yes a lot of talk shows only come on satellite radio, but is that what you really want to pay for? My ipod touch does more than any sirius satellite system does too. I use it as my PDA. It keeps calendar events, a to do list, wi fi real internet, weather reports, stock quotes, calculator, holds movies, direct mail, map feature and more! Does your satellite radio do that?

Didn't think so.

Ther is not a question of "Validity"

I think sat radio is stupid. PEROID and I do not intend to pay for it. PEROID I think cable tv is stupid. Wish I didn't pay for it. I wish I could pay for the channels i use. Local channels, weather channel, History channel, discovery channel, fox news, CMT, KET (educational channels), ESPN (x2) that's about it.

You can refund my money for the freaking shopping channels, CNN, MSNBC, MTV the Mexican channels, the used car channel, the "I'm 80 years old and can NOT sing gospel tunes" Local access channel, the BET channel, GOLF channel.... all that crap.

But basicly, IF i use my cd player, I already own the music.

You "agument" is the Non-Valid one.

Besides, the tv channels are still going to be free, after you get the converter box, no monthly fees.

My wife has XM satalite radio, for $13 a month you get to listen to a bunch of songs and artists, that you've never heard of or want to hear of, junk.

Well I've been trying to cancel my Sirius account since the first of the year and everytime I call they keep giving me 2 free months. I guess I'll call again in June and maybe this time they will just cancel it for good.

Off Topic: Howard Stern use to have the greatest FREE radio show ever. Since he went to Satellite and became Half-A-Billion $ Hamptons Howie the show just plain sucks.... just my opinion.

This whole time I have been trying to figure out why my, and apparently others, lack of thrill over sat. radoi has frosted your butt, DryBones.

Why is this such a sore spot for you?

We don't like it. It is too expensive and a waste of money, In our opinion. Why does that piss you off so much. Nobody is forcing you to read this forum.

I just wanted input on what to do with the inputs. But frosting your butt has turned into an added benefit.

can we get back on topic now?

I think it's interesting you bring this up, I've had the same comment before on other forums and I got the same response you did. People somehow thought it was abhorrent that I didn't think it was the second coming of the savior.

He must own stock in it or work for them and is afraid of saying so.

Doesn't mean we have to listen to his arguing though.

I could care less if you like it. I like it, you don't. That's just fine.Your OP sounded like you were the one pissed and as an afterthought wanted to know what to do with the antenna, etc. I started in this thread wondering why you were so pissed with Sirius, nothing more than that. Then the talk of pay vs free came into the discussion. I even went so far as to agree with you about telemarketers in general and was ready to put this to bed but you guys keep dredging it back up, not me. I am done with it and moving on. I have better things to waste my time on. Good luck with the radio removal process.

My brother loves sat radio, but then again he is an over-the-road truck driver. So for him it's probably worth every penny. I'll probably listen to it when I get it free with my new wrangler, but I doubt I'll continue the subscription after the trial period is up.

Personally, I bought Sirius to listen to the NFL Games, since I don't have cable or Sat TV because I don't turn on a TV unless football is on. As far as I'm concerned, Howard Stern can go take a long walk off a short pier. I don't care for the guy. Pretty soon Sirius and XM will be merging, so soon, we'll be geting the best of both worlds. I'll be re-upping my subscription shortly. My only quam about it it is the sound quality. I fancy myself an audiophile and the sound is really suppressed as far as I'm concerned. A new head unit and speakers may help that though if it's directly connected.
