Ok, I have looked all over on this one. I found a few post swhere people suggest that after a lift and bigger tires the front lip at the fire wall needs to be pounded in to stop the tires from rubbing while turning. Well, I am having this same issue after installing my lift and am not sure how to proceed.
In the past, I would just pull out a BFH (Big F'g Hammer) and whack it till it's flat. Is this what people do on the Liberty as well? Do you cut the plastic mud flap part that covers the weld/lip? Mine is already getting torn up from the tires so no biggy there. I don't mind whacking the lip down either, but just curious if there's a more 'civilized' way to do this?

Thanks!

Jonathan

civilized ....
To pound the pinch weld down you need a Big hammer, I heated the plastic inner fender up some with a heat gun, makes it real easy to cut then, cut it in a sort of v shape , narrow at the top folded it up, took the BH and beat the heck out of the pinch weld bending it over, almost flat or as flat as I could get it, heated the plastic back up smoothed it down over and done

Whoops and after bending over the pinch weld coat it with undercoating or something to prevent it from rusting!

I went with the BFH, works a treat :D . Fros & I think Ed used a blow torch to heat the metal then folded it over nice and easy.

Only the first hit hurts.

After that, not so much ...

Man before I went with the 245/75/16x8 I was thinking about beating my pinchers down. I did not want to do it because I thought it would be a big job to do. Then one day I bought the tires and then said the hell with it, Got my tools together jacked up the KJ and cut the pinch weld cover and took my 50lbs sledge / ax and took the first swing and I was amazed how easy that was. With the first hit I bent it in more than half way. Next swing was harder and the pincher was FLAT!
Did thae same thing on the other side. I took my heat gun and made the cover pretty hot, to the point it was starting to get shinny. Then I took my puddy knife and worked it flat.

(OH YEA, SPRAYED PRIMER A FEW COATS BEFORE REMOLDING THE COVER!)

I also had to remold my fog light doors. They were hitting but only on full lock. I still have to do more. I did not do it enough.

It is an easy job. I should have done it sooner.
