I'm experiencing the same issue. Was this the solution? If so, how do I check?
Before you start the vehicle push the primer pump handle. If it does not have resistance, then you have air in the lines. It is located under the hood by the firewall on the drivers side. The fuel filter will be sticking out under it. It is black plastic and has a spring loaded plunger towards the passenger side. The plunger is the primer pump. That is what you push.
I thought my primer was firm...until I added the mopar/cummins pump. Now, it feels like the consistency of a racquetball, very firm. I never realized that for 2 years, no matter how many times I pumped, I never bled it completely. I don't know if the stock head is even capable of getting all the air out on its own.
