Ha haha.......your a fun guy too, aren't ya? 8) 8) 8) 8)

First, is it 15 5/8 or what? I'll leave the "inch joke alone 8) " due to this being a family site.

My stock spring measured 14" exactly. So yours at 15 5/8 is almost 1 3/4 " taller than my stock one.
Now the suspension math is double the increase right? So that would put you at about 3.25" of lift, right or wrong?

Tom, if those springs you have "lying around" were brand new I would say send them up to me. I know I will have to replace my springs in the future. I was just answering the original post.

So yeah, for god sake
BUY THE OME SPRINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit: Here's my measurement with 245/75/16's I'de say 35 3/4" to the flair.

First yes the OMEs, they are brand new ones waiting to go on a customers KJ when I get down to the Southeastern part of Ohio to do the install.

Now to the picture....Ok its a Jeep, give you that much, but it's sure not a same color KJ like mine is , come on and catch up here!

The picture is of how my KJ is right now, trying something sort of new for an extra 3/4 of an inch in heighth, will see how it works out in a few miles, was able to get the alignment right on with this setup so it may work out  Before I did the last little bit of lift I was at 36 and with that and 245-75s I could be at 36 1/4 or so

I don't mean to stir things up again but isn't the general consensus that for a correct and fair comparison you have to measure from the center of the hub to the bottom of the fender. I mean if you two are running different tires and have different amount of wear on those tires, that would skew the figures right? I measure 37" ground to fender and 22 1/2" from hub to fender with my Frankie.

Spring rates for slow people
springs are like rubber bands
you have 2 that are the same length but one is thicker than the other ,or a stronger rate
Now hang a known weight from them
Which one will stretch more?
Your coils are like rubber bands in reverse

Look if you are so dense that you can not under stand that a WORLD LEADER like OME/ARB in suspension components
knows what they are doing and some shmo in Alabama may not quite have it then you have other issues that go far beyond what the people on this board can help you with

The only thing I know is this
We have OME coils on our KJ and netted ~2.5 or so inches of lift
A good friend of mine had Rustys coils installed on his about a month before and also netted about 2.5"
We installed 245/75 R16 MTR's on our KJ ,which are about 30.5" tall and 9.5" wide
He installed 30X9.5 R15 BFG MT,s which are about 29.5" tall and 9" wide
we to this day have NO RUB
he can NOT go off road because if severe rub ,he rubs on the street and his KJ looks like a funny car
when we park side by side it looks like we are parked next to a stock KJ
Now if you like this then by all means buy the runstys lift you will save $50 or so bucks
to me even saving $100 is not worth it if I can get THE BEST from a WORLD LEADER for that extra $100

argue with that

No Tom I meant the one you had for sale on the forum board for $40. I didn't know you had another set of new springs too. What do you mean by customers KJ, do you actually run a lift biz or something?

So Tom, what was the last little lift you did? Cleavis?

This is true and I stated it way way back there but he wanted from ground up so thats what I gave him, really gets to me that people keep asking for that when it tells you ZIP!!!

I help some of the LOST members install lifts (change out busted front diffs   right Jon) if they need help and also do lift installations etc. as well for side $$. Used to have my own shop and did all kinds of lifts, engines, trannys etc all the way including regular tune ups. Yes have a vendors license and am a legit  business.

Nope didn't just do a clevis, did that when I did the lift back in the spring of 05 havent changed them one bit

Gee, I wonder if this will hit 8 pages by the time I wake up in the morning.

By all means, take your measurements from the center of the hub to the bottom of the flare to get the tires out of the equation. You also need to state if a clevis lift or any kind spacer is included in your height measurements. Then too, some of you have ARB bumpers and are comparing to KJ's with stock bumpers.

Back in 04 and 05, Rusty's coil lift kit was considered the best bang for your buck..... Now in 08, most people would have to agree that, OME's and Rancho's are the best bang for your buck quality wise.

I see this going the way of the "front sway bar off is ok" topic
or the "80psi in my tires is ok" topic ,no where

some people have "Jeep envy" or "lift envy"
and simply will not come to terms with the fact that they bought some thing that was not what they thought it was

NOW I am staying up and arguing with someone till it hits 8

KJ04 I know bumpers etc come into the mix but some have a hard enough time with simple rules, throw that in and it will really confuse them

Actually I have taken a set of OME 927s and cut them in half, I welded them on top of what I had to give me 7 inches of lift. Upper control arms are not a problem as I have installed the JBA 4.5s and then wire tied my old ones below them for extra drop. So far its went to the mall and back over 6 speed bumps and doing great

Tom, you joking on the last quote? (1.5 OME)

Ok,
I do not see the point of fighting about this. You can get a hypothetical # of lift by math, if given spring length, spring rate, and weight on the spring.

But just tossing out things. Tire size is HUGE. My 235/70's that're on there now started life at just under 29. They now sit about 28.3, this alone will cause a .35" difference. Also Tom uses a strut plate and a clevis lift.

Tossing out #'s

Mine on 28.3" tires measures

34.25" to front fender flair WITH 1/8" clevis lift. Stock after 65000 miles for mine was 32"

35" to rear fender - stock 32.75 after 65000 miles

I have to believe my 04 springs did hold up really well because others talk about 3-3.5"'s just by spring changing(no tire swap) and mine was no where close.

So comparing to rusty's #'s

35.5" w/ 30.5" tire+ .75" lift from clevis

To OME

34.25 w/ 28.3" tire + .25 lift from clevis

30.5- 28.3=2.2 /2=1.1" lift
.75-.25"= .5" lift
1.1+.5= 1.6
35.5-1.6=33.9

So if the rusty's would have a 28.3" tire, and 1/8" clevis spacer it would sit .35" LESS than an OME HD w/ a 28.3" tire and a 1/8" clevis spacer

But honestly it is what it is.. I bought my OME parts from Rusty's and saved a good deal, along with ordered other things i've been wanting

I did my pinch weld and I'm kind of regreting it because I have to believe it may cause issues down the road but.. For a LT revo at 30.8 " coming in tuesday I'll bet I'll need it bashed.

Dave

no fighting at all just good old fashion BSing keeps you young and full of life!!!

as far as the strut plate thats next on the list to try, have them amde and ready, was going to do it when I did the JBA arms but ran out of time to get it to the alignment shop, getting lazy!!!!

and no I was not joking on the last quote.....well maybe ....but I did see someone try it one time on a F150 it worked for a ....short time

I feel bad for the OP, kjsport05. He probably thinks this pace is full of idiots and wackos... and he'd be mostly correct!

Remind me Tom to never hitch a ride if I see you in your KJ with the "custom" 7" lift. :D

Jason, I'd like to argue your point, but sadly I cannot. I really want to though

Poor him??? Poor me you mean. I just came on here an gave my opinion on my Rusty kit, which was the point of kjsport05's question. Then I got jumped by several people who think they are right, and in their own little world they are right. But what got me was the fact someone stated that spring rate will net you lift.Spring rate is the measure of spring deflection when a given weight is applied to the spring.

Spring rate has nothing to do with lift......period!!!! We already sloved that argument by measuring the coils last night. The lenght of the coil is what gives you lift, spring rate will tell you how much a spring will compress.

I thought this was a good place, until I was called slow and dense. If this is the way your forum runs, by demeaning people's intelligence, then there's no place for me here.

Thanks to all the good people I have talked to on here, I hope the
ignorance and thick headedness of some won't drive away future members.

You won't have any issues from pounding the pinchweld over flat.
