Hi All,
I've just got home from the shops, when I tried to start the KJ it stalled. Never has it stalled, never, however it stalled as soon as it started 3 times in a row. The 3rd time I reved the engine and it ran till I took my foot of the gas, then stalled. Now (probaably from the 1st time it stalled) the engine light is on the dash. So I checked to see if it was showing a code and this is it P0508. I then tried again it seems fine, so I made a quick dash for home.

Does anyone know what the code means, I'm thinking this means a trip to Jeep.

Thanks
CD

P0508= IAC(Idle Air Control) circuit low---------------------Looks like you have a bad IAC sensor, not hard to change but you might want to try to clean it first. It's the sensor in the throttle body(little hole under the butterfly valve) that controls your idle, pull your air tube off and try using some throttle body cleaner in there, might just be a little dirty.

Thanks mate, will that get rid of the engine light on the dash?

If in fact the IAC is just dirty the "check engine" light will not go out since it set a hard code,it will need to be reset or go about 50 "key on/key off" cycles with no fault to make the light go out.Disconnecting the battery for about 10 min should work also.

OK, $10.50 later & 1/2 a can into the throttle body. No problems, engine light is even off without me disconnecting the battery. It's idling like new and starting like a dream, thanks again Troy.

Glad it was a cheap fix, kinda suprising the code just went away, must have been only a pending code then.Either way glad you got it fixed for cheap.

Had the same problem with my 2006 Liberty. Thank you for the info.. My question is, will the IAC blow other codes? I had the same issue that CD had but I'm showing 2 codes. P0508 and P0129.

Ok, I really need help here. 2 codes showing. P0508 and P0129. I've cleaned the IAC valve and the jeep still won't start, so I replaced the IAC valve and still nothing. I have not changed the map sensor yet. Would rather get some information first before blowing more money that I don't need to. Can't return the $80 IAC valve... :banghead:

Can anyone give some ideas here on what to do next?

Thanks,
Chris.
