Fumoto durability?

I'm looking to change over to the fumoto valve, but something
inside me cringes when thinking of a valve hanging down?
I have full belly, yet still can see something going wrong.
Whats the verdict?

Had my fumoto on since I got my '06 CRD. Now got about 40K miles. The Liberty has done quite a bit of off road on my farm and had everything from corn stalks to packed snow shoved at the Fumoto (which is even with the skid plate). No problems yet. One time, I noticed it wasn't tight in the pan when I changed oil. Snugged it back up and no problems since.

I have also used the Fumoto on farm tractors and semi's. Great product and saves a lot of time.

From what I've seen on pictures from other folks, even with an adapter and nipple, the fumoto is still even with or slightly recessed with the mopar skids. Don't know about other brands... If you're worried about clearance and still want one, get the proper thread model with no nipple. If you're still worried, then just use the regular drain plug and do your own oil changes. It's not worth stressing over. If it worries you, don't do it.

The original valves required. The second one does not use a adapter and is about 3/4" shorter. I have the longer installed and will put on the shorter one the next oil change

The new one with the nipple sticks down a inch and a half from the pan surface.

Hi Joe.
It sounds like you have the same one I have. The F-108 and the adapter for it. I also have the F-102 which I have not
tried yet. My question is. If you look at the adapter for the 108, it has a shoulder on it like the original drain plug has.
The F-102 has no shoulder on it. I know that some of the problems of some has come from installing the drain without
the copper washer on it because this shoulder creases the first threads of the pan.
I think what I am asking is does this shoulder on the drain have any real purpose? Installing the F-102 with no shoulder
and a washer is not going to leak?

Thanks
Steve

I think the small tapered part of the original plug and the adapter for the 108 is to locate the copper washer in the center of the drain plug

Looking at the 102 and the original drain plug it has a larger "lip" or flange and the included fiber washer is equally large

I don't think leaking will be a problem

Fully retired

My concern with the fumoto is whether it creates a lip inside the pan where the valve screws up through. This would keep some of the oil, and likely the collected crud in the bottom of the pan, from draining out. Has anyone seen the inside of an oil pan with one of these screwed in? Or have any comments on whether this should be a concern?

I wouldn't sweat it. Most pans don't drain that completely anyway. A typical stamped steel pan would have a thread boss on the inside and create much the same scenario you're talking about. The cast pan on the CRD is pretty thick, there may not be as much protrusion as you think. If you want to take the time, the fumoto could either be shortened or grooved on the end to allow for better drainage.

F-102 just installed-- and no leaks, no muss, no fuss! It had the paper gasket which I used. I feel completely confident and the part is way "tucked" in in relation to the skid panels. Ready to look forward to the conveince of the next oil fluid change.

I installed mine yesterday. No leaks. I removed the seal that was on the valve and put a new copper washer that I bought from the dealer. The valve is tucked up an inch or so above the skid plate. I am not worried. The good thing was that my drain plug came out perfectly. It looks the previous owner didn't crank it down too much!

On my last oil change, I held 2L coke bottles up to the Fumoto, turned the valve and no fuss, no mess. Took the filter
off and dropped it into my drain pan. I did remove the Fumoto to see how much oil was being retained inside the
oil pan. It was very little. If I had thought ahead of time, I would have used a clean drain pan to know exactly how
much oil was left. I would guess maybe a quarter of a cup at most.

Good point. A simple groove solves my concern. I think I'll order one and see how it goes.

Looks like i'll be placing an order. Thanx guys.
