Yes, thats the filler hole. Need to pull that rubber plug out to fill the diff. Add enough until it overflows and replace the plug.

If you need to drain, then you have to take the cover off. I recommend a lubelocker gasket rather than RTV. just makes getting it back together so much easier.

YOU can partially drain the diff using one of those little pumps that fit on oil jugs. might need to put an extension on it to reach the bottom [i can't remember right now]. just siphon out all you can.
i used a very small bit of white gas to thin it out when i got near the bottom- let it set a little, then continue siphoning.
you won't get 100%, but you'll get most of it, then put in your new stuff. i stuck with the heavier recommended stuff since i was sure i had a thimble-full or 2 of white gas left rolling around the bottom.
oh yeah, and from an old thread here- if you even think you have the trak-lok or other type of locking diff, USE THE FRICTION MODIFIER! you don't want to hear what it will sound like if you don't...

I'm due for another gear oil change and I was wanting to try something other than my wire wheel for getting the old RTV off. Does anyone know where i can buy one of those neat plastic-compound 3M abrasive wheel thingies?

Don't be lazy pull the cover off and clean it out good, one of the reasons you are changing it out is to remove any particles from the bottom, if you only stick a tube in there it is not cleaning it out! Takes 5 more minutes to do it right IMO!!!

Non,the RTV will keep them bolts in good, trust me the RTV used to seal the cover will get in the holes and keep them bolts in there.

I like using ultra black. A bottle pump helps when refilling the diff.

red RTV withstands higher temps than blue, I believe.

Thats the JBA Y-link extension. It helps relieve stress on the rear ball joint. It also helps reset the pinion angle after a lift. Its really only needed on 4+ inch lifts, but it help get rid of rear drive-line vibe for me.
