I want to hear from guys who replaced their CV axels.

As you know I now had the problem with my drivers side CV.
(LONG STORY SHORT)
2 Months ago, front drive shaft went on me. Had it replaced and 2 days later the pass side CV axel needed to be replaced....This brings me to last Friday.

Drivers side CV clicking when full lock, driving home I could not go faster than 40MPH or I would get some nasty noises (IE: Vibrations and a WHOPPING sound as I go faster.)

Today I replaced the CV axel with my brother in-law and the clicking noises are gone. I reached 55MPH and I start to get the same whopping noise BUT not as bad until I hit 60MPH and higher.

Tire PSI is 35 all the way. Going to the tire store where they mounted my skins to have a balance test. If they are ok, What do you guys thing?

I think maybe front drive shaft again.

When I had the whole drivers wheel apart, everything was inspected as we put it back together and nothing was out of the ordinary.

Please ring in on this guys. I hope some one here has gone though this before. (WELL NO HOPE IN A BAD WAY. JUST HOPE in FOR INFO)

I'm interested in this too. My CV's are clicking on both sides and are looking like they're going to need replacement soon. Sorry I can't help JD, but I'll be watching this thread as things go along as well. Hopefully someone can chime in.

if both your wheels are clicking, then yea your cv's are shot. You need to replace the axels.

I did mine for 70 beans per axel. My cuz got them for me and they were not re-mans either.

It is actually not that hard of a job to do.

pull the front drive shaft and see if that helps. Not sure, but did you check the wheel bearings, i don't think they would make a whopping noise....

Ever think something else is causing your CV,driveshaft, and noise problems?

Wheel bearings, front diff, and the t-case could be causing all your grief, but which one? Got to eliminate one by one to narrow down your list.Pull the driveshaft,if noise is still there then pull both CV shafts,if the noise is still there then I'd be buying some new unit bearings.

Well front drive shaft and both CV's are new.

THis morning I took my front skid because it was full of mud and I noticed that the dealer axel they put in had oil and grease marks at the diff and on the other end of a solid grey shaft that looks stationary.

The wheel bearings are all good.
It is making the same EXACT noise from when they replaced the front drive shaft. After they replaced that, the noise went away.

So if it is non of these issues, lets say it is the T-case or the diff, what will lthat cost?

Front diff is about $1400 + install(not hard),231 t-case is about $600(new),242 t-case is about $1000(new).

I have done front diff before but it was on my 95 YJ

I am having one of my friends down at the jeep service center taking a look at it and is going to tell me what is wrong.

If it is something like t-case or diffs, I am going to do it my self.

The T-case does not look all that hard to do.

How do I know which t-case I have? or does it mater? I see the 231 is a command track and the other one is not.

I know the 2 types, but how do I know what I have in mine?
I looked in the manual, looked up my vin with Jeep site and nothing. I can not find my build sheet from the dealer.

Do you have a full time option? If yes you have the select trac,if not you have command trac, both have a part time option.

Select Trac-------2hi,4 full time,4 part time,and 4 low
Command Trac------2hi,4 part time,and 4 low
