I just bought bunout's old Ruff Stuff Diff Cover. It has a few pin hole leaks, but get this, I called the guys over at Ruff Stuff tonight and asked them the best way to repair the pin hole leaks and the guy told me that when I get it from bugnout, to send it to him and he would send me a brand new one! :D Talk about customer service. I didn't even buy it from them! (he didn't have the best things to say about someone here on our forum though. (yikes) things you learn) :?

Anyway, I am going to paint my cover when I get it. Not sure what color, but I don't know how I should paint it to be honest. Primer, then paint, but what kind of paint? Should I tape the threads of the fill plug, or leave it in and paint it over as well? What color should I paint it? Any suggestions? I was going to wait for Marty to get the Riddler covers in but not anymore. Should I tape bolt holes as well? Thanks for any input. :D

I am not worried about getting in trouble or booted, it was just really interesting info, but like the pm said, I only have one side of the story. it actually bummed me out big time when I found out the "story", anyway, this thread is about the diff cover, the other thing was just a side note.

I painted mine after getting in from RockLizzard...primer then paint. Taped over the fill plug threads only.

But I have not installed it  since shortly after that purchase the leaks appeared for some guys (not mine when I tested it) and I have not yet repainted it to cover the logo I painted. The repain and install is on my short list ot things to do in the next month.

I painted mine after I tested for leaks with soapy water....not a good choice to use. I used Rustoleum Hammered Gold. A few coats of primer and then a few coats of the paint.

Seemed okay, but I do have a very tiny leak. It is extremely small since I only have a very tiny amount of diff fluid smeared on the cover.

As for the person he was mentioning. Yes, there's always a story for both sides.

Red is my favorite color. You'd never know by how much black is on my kj though. 8)

I just painted my shackle apple red, (I really liked snowsport's) and my d-loop black. I may paint my front tow hooks apple red as well. I am leaning towards apple red again for the diff cover beacause I have the red shackle, and my NATO Fuel can mounts are red too. Everything else is black pretty much.

Sounds like a good color to go with since you have a black KJ. Gives it some contrast.

On my TJ everything is red and black. I painted the rock rings red and the covers black. Looks nice. I wanted a new look for it when it finally comes out of my garage again. Since my libby is silver, its all silver and black. As much as I like red I just don't think it would look right under it.

I have decided. I will paint the main whole of the cover apple red, and the mounting bolts black. I figure it will give it a real big contrast like that. I'll post picks whenever I get it done. Should I do my front tow hooks red too? Is that too much? How hard are they to take off anyway. The rear was super easy.

Ignore that last question. I just looked and they are easier than the rear was.

Well, it definitely looks like black and red are the way I am going.

6 coats of apple red paint and 6 coats of black gloss. I guess I'l have to put my roof rack with my red fuel mounts on as well if I want to complete the look.
