The RC lift consists of new rear shocks, new rear coils that are longer, which are both fine. The problem is in the front end, Its a billet aluminum strut spacer. This puts the stock strut further up, making it prone to topping out and destroying it.

Simon says:

how many times do you have to say
stay away from rocky road
stay away from any OTT lift

if you want to lift do it right or don't do it at all! Unless you are going with a Daystar then spend the 600 or so for a OME or move up to a Frankenlift anything elae and you will be crying your eyes out in a few months

plus look back through previous posts and do not look at some of the crap lifts prople posted in the Lift section

Well, despite what simon says, I have heard good things about RC lifts. I know somebody with one and they love it, plus I have been told on this form that they are good. I have also heard good things about daystar, so they are my #1 options right now. We will just have to see what happens this summer. The original dream was lift and then tires, so I can get bigger tires, but I don't NEED bigger tires, and if I go up a size, I will need to buy 5 tires, instead of the 4 if I keep the same size (cause of the spare)... So I might just hold off on the lift a bit, and go for the tires asap.

You seem to be missing a very important point here. If you plan on adding an ARB bumper, you will need at least a 400 lb. spring rate to support it period. Neither of your choices provide the springs and therefore it would be a waste of time and money on your part. Do your self a favor and save your money up untill you can afford to do it right the first time.

Either the OME HD coils F/R(927's and 948's) to give you about 2"-2 1/2" of lift,or get the Frankinlift with the HD OME coils,3"-3 1/2" of lift.Don't forget the JBA HD/greaseable UCA's,makes getting back into alignment easier and are stronger then the OEM junk UCA's,they have replaceable and greaseable balljoints also.

Like KJ04 stated if you wnat to add the ARB bumber you will need at least the OME HD coils(927's) to support it,or if you can snag some stock CRD coils and use the daystar lift, the stock CRD coils are 410lbs rated coils, the OME 927's are 400lbs rated coils, the stock KJ gasser coils are about 350lbs rated coils.

Oh and you'll probably want to get some Moog ball joints, and Jeepin by Al's Generation 4.5 Upper A-Arms.

After hearing everyone's stories, I'd spend the extra money and get the OME or FRANKENLIFT. I will be getting the FRANKENLIFT II Premium Kit in about a year or so b/c I'll have my new job around then (I hope) and some new money!!

Dont know where you heard good things about RC lifts maybe on something other than a KJ, but I for one would not put an RC on my worst enemies KJ or any vehicle. If you ask we try and steer you in the right direction but it seems you don't like all of our suggestions and keep bringing up junk lifts, so Good Luck my friend, hope you survive !

Yep Simon says

Sorry I don't have the cash to afford a $1200+ lift. Read through this whole thread, there is a guy that posted that has the RC lift, and he likes it. A good friend of mine lives by RC gear, and he knows many Jeeps (not KJ's though) with that lift. If all I can do is spend a insane amount of money in a lift, than screw it, I'm not going to bother. Maybe I'm not hard core enough to really play here, but I'm not in the market for spending close to $2000 for a lift.

I honesty sounds like the Daystar would be perfect for you and it is really inexpensive. I'd go that route. But if you do want the ARB bumper, you have to upgrade your coils, so you should get the OME lift with the HD coils, or try and find the CRD coils to swap out for your stock springs and run the daystar. The Rough Country is just overpriced for what it is I think. It doesn't seem to be worth it even though it is cheaper than other lifts out there. But if you want to go that route then do it. Take what other people say on here into account, but it is your jeep and you obviously can get what you want.

not sure where you are getting this 2000 for a lift, a good lift can be OME springs, Rancho shocks/struts and be done, 2.5 to 3 inches of lift with a clevis, and about 600 or so.
As far as RC they maybe  ok for something other than a KJ , but they have a bad reputation on here with some of their products and customer service , well no customer service at all.
Its funny when you mention "insane amount for a lift" Have you ever priced a good lift for anything else, most lifts start at 1500 and up so when we lift for 600 to 1200 that is CHEAP!!
You come on asking for advice, many have gave it to you and only one with RC, but yet....oh well buy what you want we tried.
Trust me after 4 years plus on here me and several others have seen and read about every lift available for the KJ, we are trying to share that info , take it or leave it, only trying to help !!

Wow... that's longer than I've even been around. :D

     Most all of my Craftsman tools are older than most on here!! When we did lifts back then there was no internet to look things up on, no companies providing every thing you need at one stop, hunt what may work, change it out for something different, add leaves from other vehicles, it was tear down every Sunday night after a weekend of wheeling and work all week for the next weekend.
Everyone has it made any more ! Was it the good old days...not really but had some cool rides and a lot of fun!! No dang tree huggers back then !!!

I have yet to find a OME lift for that cheap, and considering I will require shipping, customs, and installation, I doubt I can get a OME for $600. Considering I can locally get a RC for $500, I think you are low balling it a bit there. I'm not trying to argue with you, but I think since I have heard positive things about RC your being a bit bull headed. I'm not even saying I am dead set on RC, all I am saying is that is where my price range is, and nobody has showed me anything except daystar and RC for that price. If I could get a OME lift for that price, man, I seriously consider it. I have heard amazing things about OME, they are a bit short of a lift than what I want (1.5"-1.75"/rear), but still, they are solid. Just so I know, how big is the frankenlift anyways?

Just for the record I am not bull headed on the RC lifts do a search of RC on here and some of the problems with their lifts, also not low balling the prices of OMEs either although you are on the wrong side of the border so prices are more , if you want one of us to buy it and throw it over the border to ya we can do that !!
As far as the OME being short, no I set the same or almost the same as the Frankenlift ( friend has a Frankenlift with taller tires and I set higher than he does presently) and I am within one inch of JeepinbyAls 4 inch lift kit, so OMEs Heay Duty springs can be made to be a 3 inch lift, trust me I and others have done it.

So no bad feelings , if I were you would go with Daystar though great lift for the money, but then you will nedd other springs anyways some day if you want to put a real bumper on! , but its your money so go for it! whatever it is

Tom

I phoned a local shop and was talking to them. He was pointing me towards a kit by a company called BDS. It is 2" front and 1.5" rear, and consists of new front coils and spacers, and rear coils and shocks. I also noticed this on the sticky of all lifts for the kj... Anyone hear have anything to say about it (good or bad)?
http://www.bds-suspension.com/kits/442H
This is pretty close to my price, I was quoted $500, but he had to check about installation and get back to me, so we will wait and see. He told me it would hold the ARB bumper, but he also told me considering how I use the liberty, the ARB is probably severe overkill, and a big waste of cash. He is going to take a look into what is more suited for me. Eitherway that mod probably isn't happening till next year. I am still loving the arb just for the look though :)

ya BDS is a good lift, but it uses the stock front coils again that will not support an ARB so you would still need to replace them w/ some used CRD front coils

the BDS is a nice riding, nice handling lift (if you get Rancho shocks)...but the front springs are NOT going to support a 100lb bumper.

No sir, the BDS lift does not use your stock front coil springs. The front springs would be comparable to OME medium springs pound rating wise. ThunderbirdJunkie and I installed the BDS lift on my KJ. You are correct in that they would not support an ARB front bumper. I am very pleased with both the on and off road performance on the BDS lift.
