I got up eary this morning to go fishing at a friends ranch, about an hours drive away. I fished four a couple of hours and then went by the cemetery to see my best friend . I took the long way home to go through a couple low water bridges , the first one was not to deep and it was no problem. We have had some rain lately and second bridge had about 6 to 8 inches of water going across. It was 30 to 40 feet across and moving pretty fast ,I had crossed it many times in the past so i didnt think is was a big deal. I pulled in slowly got almost halfway and the front started to slide sideways i hit the brakes and it slid to about a 45 degree angle . then stopped a foot from the side  I put it in four wheel drive hit reverse and luckly backed out . i"ll never do that again

ya we have been getting a bunch of rain lately, I found a low water bridge and I sat at the waters edge wondering if I should try, but I decided against it since I havent raised my breathers tubes yet  I gotta get off my lazy butt and do it soon

Might be time to weld on some pontoons to the KJs back in the Midwest.

Texas hill country manages to drown a few folks every year when they try to cross low water crossings with water over the road.

Rainstorms in the hills focus the water toward creeks that are dry 90% of the time and the water will go from 2 inches to 2 feet in the time it takes to drive across. (drains back down almost as fast)

So in Texas never drive across moving water, never.

(even on a lifted Jeep - water hitting the side of the wheel can push you sideways off the bridge)

Water is one of the most powerful forces mother nature can throw at you. At least there weren't any injuries or major damage to your vehicle. As a boater - I've seen some silly things that has taught me to respect any water on the road or out at sea.

Stay safe. And keep the shiney side up

A couple of guys in kayaks got tangled up in a low head dam yesterday. We have a lot of them around here. The fire/resuce guys formed a human chain and got him out. Some people don't listen and need to find out the hard way

If it is fast moving, doesn't matter what you drive, it is too dangerous.

If it's moving at all - it's probably going to cause problems. Especially if it's wide enough to get all four of your tires in the water.
