Our CRDs already have a cold air intake.

CATCRD has a turbo timer installed, and many others have a provent.

A poor mans provent is the elephant hose mod - many of us here are running it.

If you haven't yet clean your MAP, and do the ORM.

the elephant hose mod, or EHM, does basically the same thing as a provent, you take a piece of hose off the crank case vent - CCV, and just route it somewhere where it vents.

the MAP sensor - Manifold absolute pressure sensor, is THE engine management sensor that the ECU basis everything off of. When it gets dirty and clogged, performance is affected.

It can be seen here, though it will be a little harder for you to make out in the engine bay as it is hiding under a wiring harness - generally when you clean it you will see a ~2mpg increase in mileage if its gummed up.

takes about 5 mins to remove, yours will have just a single bolt holding it in, its an allen head, I forget the size.

Clean it with some MAF cleaner, electric parts cleaner, or brake cleaner.

Chances are you will find its really gummed up if its not been done, or not been done for awhile.

Just cleaned mine last week, and was amazed at how dirty this thing was.
The job was very easy, used SimpleGreen degreaser, and mineral spirits with a toothbrush.
Believe the allen was a 7 mm.
Not a big fan of how the engine cover comes off "with the oil cap removed",so i put blue masking tape on to cover the hole.
My cover was full of dirt and sand,so i washed that thing too.

I'm so impressed with the results"better mpg",that i plan on cleaning at every other oil change.

I am thinking of trying a homemade catch can instead of the EHM, by using an air compressor filter (like on some gasser turbo forums). Has anyone tried this? Any thoughts?

We have considered that option, but the last bit of discussion we had on it I think we decided even the largest ones are too small.

Maybe someone else will chime in with the minutes of that discussion.

Since my guess is they aren't, then what are they mounted to? Just curious

I think it was a 4mm. The worst thing you can do is drop the bolt or the washer on it into the hole (into the engine). DONT do that. Everything else is pretty simple.

Check out the seperate CRD Tech section. Lots of stuff in there without having to fish around.

Agreed, the washer isn't too bad but these metric srews can be a complete pain to source.

At Lowe's they had an aircompressor filter about 8 inches long for $20. This would not be big enough for the Liberty? Any thoughts?

I did a little research and was wondering what everyone thought of the CCV going into the exhaust pipe under the vehicle. I google'd it and came across a dude with an 07 powerstroke that did it and here is the link to his pics.

If you just want a filter go to a speed shop or good autoparts store and get a breather filter that will fit onto a 3/4" hose

You need a bowl to catch the oil, besides..if you go with the air compressor filter, you take out the filter part..... So, all your left with is a bowl to collect oil and maybe if you put some high quality steel wool...the oil might condense on that better??

In regards to running it to the exhaust: What was the threaded hole that was in the truck's exhaust used for? If you do not have one in your own exhaust, then what? I like the idea, just cannot see how it could work on the Liberty (without pain) :D
