Post subject: Please help! Question regarding a Daystar lift...
PostPosted: Thu Jun 19, 2008 1:03 pm
Hello,

I recently just purchased 245/70/16 Wrangler Silent armor tires for my KJ and am interested in getting the Daystar 2.5" comfort ride lift kit.

I don't really understand a lot about lifts other than the fact that this particular lift is a suspension lift which I am told is easier to install and you have less likelyhood of damaging the rest of the stock components with it?

Is this correct slash is this a good budget lift? Also, is there anything else I should be replacing if I get this? I've heard getting rancho shocks is a must?

I know this question has probably been posted before, but I am completely new to the world of lifts and would appreciate any help!

If you get lifted, you'll want bigger tires.....I have your size in an aggressive AT on an unlifted stock KJ with zero rubbing anywhere. Once lifted, you may be longing to fill in the wheel well with something a bit larger....just something to consider.

w/ that small of a tire I suggest just adding a rear coil isolator or two for the rear & some conduit nuts to level/raise the front a little.

I've got Daystar front (at the time the only thing that could support CRD)

It's a good lift - All-J's has them on sale for $155 - you need to at least add rear Ranchos for the extra height -fronts have a different top plate to allow everything to bolt up.

I don't think it's easier to install - I mean you do have to remove and disassemble the struts and reinstall them - which is what you'd do with any spring lift, so the same.

Taz's install

if you have the money - an OME would be a better lift - but you'd be spending about $650 or so

(Rusty's is cheaper - but several folks have had the front end sag after a year or so)

First, Welcome Snoogans! I know what you are going through. I am installing my first lift tomorrow :D WOOOOHOOO and I had the same choices. Since I have not installed it yet, I can't give an accurate idea of the install. BTW, mine is a OME HD lift. I was leaning towards the daystar but I need new shocks and in the end the OME just made more sense for me. Why rip the darn thing apart more than I have too. :)

As for the tires, I have Yokohama Geolander HT/s 245/70/16 and currently they look good...although I do not recommend the tire much. Most of it is due to the heat out here in Vegas...I think plus if you go off the beaten path they take a punishment and loose rubber. So, I am looking at a few suggestions now. Keep an eye out for my post that will most likely be this Sat, since I am starting the lift late Friday now. (due to father-in-law working, the nerve!) LOL.

On a side note, Where do you go off-roading in Batavia? I used to live in Lake Geneva and my Father's parents lived in Aurora, so we would go through there all the time...but that was many years ago. I don't remember much in the way of trails there but it has been many years. Any idea if that old Round barn is still there off of...Randal Road and 34 I think it was.

This is all good information, thanks everyone. I dont want to drop more money on bigger tires right now (i still have to drive on the road 80% of my time and gas prices these days damper big tires!)

I don't know what to do, I feel like adding some kind of a lift will just make it look sooo much nicer...

Daystar is a good cheaper alternative to a full spring lift.
But as others have said you have to tear everything apart to install and you will need longer rear shocks but you could get by maybe with your stock struts since you have an 07

so All Js 155
new rear shocks and a few hours labor and you will be higher and HAPPY

I have the 245/70/16 tires with a 2.5-3" lift and Im happy with them. Cant afford to lose any more mpg.

The ranchos are not a must. You can get the OME's or stick with stock. The stock shocks probably wouldnt last to long with a lift on the front though.

Ohh, the daystar lift isn't a suspension lift, its a spacer lift. A suspension lift means you replace the coils. With a spacer lift, a spacer is added under the spring to get more lift.

Hey if you are looking for new tires I have ZERO complaints with these silent armors! As for wheeling in Batavia...yeah...pretty much doesn't exist unless you are going places you shouldn't (not that I have....ok maybe). But I am hoping to get out to Cliffs to do some starter trails! And yeah, that barn is totally still there!

Let me know how that OME lift goes, I am looking at installs right now for that and it looks nice!
