From Jeep.com
82210003- Transmission, Steel, bridges the gap between front and transfer case skid plates, front skid plate (82209026) must also be installed
82209455- Transfer Case, Steel, (same as production)
82206122- Fuel Tank
82210769- Front Suspension, Steel 4X4 models only
82209026- Front Suspension, Steel (same as production)
I called the dealer to order but they couldn't tell me, are 82209026 and 82210769 interchangeable?
Will 82210003 still work with 82210769?
And lastly what else is "open" after the install of these plates. I had my liberty less than 2 weeks and snapped the axel housing in a "freak chain" of events. Jeep and the dealer i purchased it from told me too get bent on any claims so i considered welding up a "full body" skid our boys/girls in Iraq would be safe above of, then realized that was probably overkill. But since I have already replace the axle housing, I am not wanting to do much besides prevention until I can get my lift and new shoes.
Thanks in advance,
Jay

Well I got my skids through jparts.com, good people to deal with and a wee bit cheaper price on them, unless you have other connections of course. they have held up well for me so far, and that counts a trip to Moab with them where they were scraped around pretty good and dropped on a few times. As far as "holes" go there is an opening to have access to the oil drain plug and also an opening for the oil to drain from where the oil filter is removed. The skids form a nice sliding line underneath the KJ so there are no real hangups on them when going over an obstacle that wants to reach out and touch them. As for the 2 front suspension skids, I've only known of the one and that is P/N 82210769. That is the one I recently got installed on my rig at least. I'm not sure what the other skid is that you have listed there, unless that is the small one that assists in protecting the front diff that you get with the KJ from the factory?? Best of luck with your mods!

Yes 82210003 will still work with 82210769. I just picked up all the skid plates you listed a few weeks ago and put them on last weekend. No problems.

The only tight spot you are going to run into is the fuel tank skid. One bolt is directly above the exhaust pipe and you will need an 18mm gear wrench to tighten it up. Nothing else will fit in there. A regular hand wrench takes far too long and does not give you enough leverage to get it all the way in.

It sounds like you found the KJ weak link. The front differential, the Dana 30a, is a piece of crap that we have to live with. To avoid it happening again do not let your front tires spin freely and then grab traction. Other than that spend $$$$$ for a solid front axel.

Welcome to the group and have a lot of fun wheeling!

Terry

Thanks, i knew thr internet would be better informed than a factory rep, so sad but true. JParts has good prices but the shipiing kills me, i live off the "road less traveled"

You stated that you "snapped the front axle" the question is did you just hit a good rock or did you get crazy with the go
pedal?
If you did it on a rock then skids will help if it was from the go-go juice then nothing you can do but take it easy
SFA or buy a wrangler

oh and as far as skids
you can order them and request that ups hold them for pick up
it will save you some on shipping

jparts has free shipping over $300 dollars spent. order all the skids at once along with something else to get you to $300, maybe slush mats or whatever (I went rock rails! ). Thats what I did to save on the shipping. Now I just need to get them all installed.

didn't notice the $300 mark gave into free shipping. as for the break here is the short story-
was driving on a "trail" that is directly off a forest service road. as i was crawling alond at just above idle we were bouncing around a little. the right tire passed over a sall rock in the path (about 3" tall with about a 5" hole behind in i could not see) as i rolled over the rock it shifted the tire went into the divit as the Dana30 pumpkin started to "bottom out on the center berm of the trail. There were also rocks on the "center berm" one hit the passenger side housing about 3 inches off the pumpkin and the Alum casing shattered in a spiral detaching the main housing from the leg. Sucked to be me. so i parked it, went fishing and called a tow truck and work to say "not coming in for a few days". All in all, it foced me to take the time and learn as much as i could about the KJ suspension.
No BS most people could drive a car down ths same road/trail, as long as you take your time and are careful, it truly was a "freak" thing that i don't think i could do again if i tried. My suggestion to Jeep was to get new trails for their "trail rating", i believe that is when they didn't like me anymore, and the discussion went down hill from there. Found a used housing at a salvage yard and didi the swap in a few hours the next weekend.

How many miles are on your rig was it not warranty worthy? I was fortunate to have mine fixed under warranty when mine went out on the trail.

wow, amazing the excuses dealers will give I reckon. Mine has all sorts of scratches and small dents and was still dirty (had the ORV sticker on it still too) when I took it in with front driveshaft in hand saying "the front diff broke, new one please." In about 4 days i had my kj back. Sorry that happened to ya, thats a real deal breaker with that dealer for the future. Granted I guess it helped that my dealer was affiliated with te Jeep Club I was in back home...but still you'd think one would do it that another wouldn't mind following suit...

Yeah it really chapped me, but I still have the EXACT vehicle I wanted, it just cost me an additional $1K and a weekend with the wrench, could have been worse. (I spent the younger part of my life pretty angry, trying to find the "silver lining" as an example for my sons.)

Sounds like his broke from an impact, not from gettin friendly with the skinny pedal. Hence the skids conversation.

I could be wrong though.

What year is your Jeep, and if you don't mind me asking, what stealership did you go to?

Your in luck on one thing. It sounds like your vehicle is a newer model, so you can still get skids for it. They have discontinued skids for the 02 to 04 models.

I bought mine from the dealer due to the shipping costs (none) and they could have them to me in 2 days or less. The cost for the front three (suspension, engine/tranny, and tcase) was less than $200 at the dealer. I have since replaced the Engine/Tranny with a Skid Row, but only because I got a good deal on it with some CRS Rock rails.

Slap some skids on it and you won't regret it.

And welcome to the forum, hope you are enjoying the Liberty!

Pablo,
i bought a "gently used 2007" from one of the "no bull" dealers. so i guess living here didn't qualify me as "native" but being treated poorly, IMHO, by the Earnhardt group allows me membership into the tribe?
