Several weeks ago after parking my '06 CRD for two weeks, I went out to start it and the battery was dead. I put the trickle charger on and noticed the back glass was not fully closed. Then I remembered that if I press the button to open only the back glass the dome light will come on and stay on until the lock button on the key is pressed or the power door lock button is pushed down to re lock all the doors.

Does this happen on other members Jeeps? Or is my '06 unique?

If you press the dome light to turn it off when the back is open it won't come on again unless you press it again.

Yeah, but who, in his right mind, leaves his KJ CRD partially unlocked for 2 weeks in this day and age, eh?

Sometimes when I need to get ready for work to get up at 3:30AM to catch a flight the next day it is a rat race with lots of Honey Do tacked on.
My point is the button can get unintentionally bumped and the back hatch will sometimes not open all the way and can turn on the dome light and run the battery down :!: :!: :!:
Having the dome light stay on when the back glass is closed after being open and all is locked up is a STUPID ENGINEERING SCREW UP :P :P :P :P :P :P :P
Now I check the dome light and hit the button after closing the back glass.
When I need to park after having the back glass open, I press the lock button to make sure the dome light is off :!: :!: :!: :!:
This is a bug I have brought to light.

Hmmmm, I’ll have to try that one.
Mine seems to be “Goof Proof” when it comes to the lights. I know that if I leave the parking lights on, the Body Computer will shut them off after about 5 minutes, even though the switch is still on.
I’ll pop the back window and see if it shuts it off and report back.

Good points, all, but at least if the battery is dead, the midnite auto shopper cannot drive off in your KJ............

Hummmm, I will need to check. Seems to me when mine was new I got that rear light on and I had to post here to get it to turn off again and I have had it off since.......I think. I can't say that I have ever noted the rear flipper on my '06 being "partially" open. It is either open or closed.

Yup, the body computer shuts it down after about 5 minutes. Window open, lights off. Closed window and popped it again, lights on.
I wonder if this is one of those things you can program? (Just like how many doors open when you hit the key, horn toot, etc.).

Try this test. Engine off, key off and go turn on just the parking lights. They should automatically turn off in about 5 minutes. (I don’t know the exact time but they should turn themselves off). This will test the body computer.
Let us know.

I have noticed the head lamps shut off as TurboTim described the parking lights shutting off, but the dome light stays on until the battery is dead.
I notice that the tail gate stays unlocked after the back glass is closed.
Good thing the evergreen bush I backed up to made it so the rear could not be opened.
I wounder if a lot of the battery problems are due to the "BATTERY KILLER BUTTON"

Just tried mine.
Pop the rear glass open, dome lights on, close glass. lights go off after 1 minute.

Pop the rear glass open, lightly close it to stay just ajar. dome lights go off after 9 minutes.

That how my flipper glass and dome lights work.

Just my 02 worth.

Steve

Mirrors my test except there is no intermediate between open and closed on my flipper. It is all open or all closed. I pushed it closed very gently and it only latches all the way and the struts are stong enough to always keep it all the way open. I didn't check to see how long the dome would stay on with it all the way open.

I want to repeat that when I first had it I did not know that it could be turned on independently by pushing on it. I did that accidentally while loading or unloading something and it would not seem to turn back off. That might be your issue but even then I thought the BCM would eventually shut it down.

Did you ever have the BCM reprogram done that ran the battery down?

After reading reports on post F37 flashes that screw up the trans shifting, I am afraid of going in to have the BCM flashed and going from 28mpg to 14mpg.
Can the BCM be extracted and flashed on a bench?
That way they can't screw up the trans ECM.

Replace the bulb in the rear dome light with an LED bulb, should give you a longer run time...
:P

Sounds like a fualty hatch glass latch,I believe there was a TSB on them for some years for the KJ.

In my '02 any light will turn off in 8 min or less if left on with the key off, dome lights or headlights.

What is the build date of your 06 :?: If it was November 06 or later you already have at least some of F37 but the shifting can still get worse  If you know someone with a vag-com or other scanner that can read the software version of the ecm and tcm's you can tell what you've got
