Got under my KJ today and noticed that i'm leaking oil where my driver side CV joint goes into the differential. Can someone tell me what I need to replace? My axle seal(s)? Does my differential need to be taken apart? Is it time for a front DTT? :P

Pull the CV shaft and replace the seal and the plastic bushing(no bearings, they went cheap and use plastic bushings).

before you take the time to "repair" it how bad is it?
is it dripping or just moist?

Just moist = keep an eye on it may last 5 more years
leaving a small drop after a long trip = keep a close eye on it
leaving a drop after every trip = fix it

Plastic bushing instead of bearings(older D30A's had bearings but often went bad),the seal leaking is most likely the bushing getting worn and deforming the seal causing a leak, will only get worse in a short amount of time.

Troy is RIGHT AS USUAL... :D

I just had mine replaced 3 days ago....

I noticed the oil on the diff/cv... I washed it off at the car wash and by the time I drove back home there was new oil in the same place.... And everytime I parked it after driving, it looked wet....

the stealership wanted $250  for the labor
(I ordered the seal from the dealership, $20-or around there)
and took it to a local shop and they replaced it for $70 It Only took an 1.2 hrs...

Voila-- No more leak

I'm thinking about just taking the time and rebuilding the differential (I've already done the rear diff). It has had water in it (took it wheeling before I knew what breather tubes were, later found out I bought the KJ with cracked breathers :( )

Is there a place online I can get the rebuild kit and a R&P for the D30a ? Also thinking about getting a DTT

I got mine from 4Wheel Parts for $387 shipped, and it was the best deal I could find anywhere
